These days it's tough to get to projects we've had in mind for a while. With a second baby recently added to the mix, we're lucky if we can check things off our ever growing list. But finally we are getting to our stairwell renovation (don't worry, the basement is still very much a work in progress). Tile is going down, using our favorite leveling system . Once complete, we'll grout, clean up the walls, paint the walls one uniform, neutral color, and finish off with moulding. Finally the view from our dining room won't be so dingy and we'll have an easier time accessing our outdoor space.

Monday motivation! Do a little every day and in the long run, you'll get ahead. Being busy parents with full time jobs, we need to make space for this renovation and sometimes that means doing it late at night. I'm grateful that we each have our strengths that play nicely off each other. demos and I clean very efficiently!

We've been on a pretty long hiatus, it's true. 2.5 years has flown by and any new parent will tell you or relate when I say life gets busy, it gets messy and things get reprioritized but I'm thrilled to share that we are slowly starting to make our come back! We've started working on our basement and we're back to shopping at our favorite big box supply store

Will post very soon on some progress photos but the first phase is clearing out what used to be a very weirdly shaped room and hallway for work shop and begin the arduous task of organize all his tools. Once the back rooms are cleared of junk and tools, we can begin demo.

Goal is to have a single large room which will house a mini gym, a downstairs tv room, and a bedroom. There will be a separate full bath and a laundry room. Eventually our stairwell will also receive a major overhaul.

Nearly there!! We have a few more to put up on the right side and a few more pieces of wood to frame out the bottom but we could not be more pleased with our kitchen nook - especially because we custom made it to work for our space. We now also have plenty of storage for all those Costco trips under each seat!

Our little handyman was born on July 27th and we are absolutely in love. Making sure he grows up big and strong so he can help his parents with all their renovation projects!

We waited so long to fulfill our dream of becoming parents, opting to finish the majority of our first floor renovation that you've been following, before we started a family. We are really happy we did for three reasons - one, it's nice to be in a highly functional, easy to clean space; two, mentally, I need things to be orderly and checked off in my mind otherwise I lose it; and three, the universe knew we'd need to be parents to this little nugget so it had us wait until just the right moment to make him.

Even though we are brand new parents and super busy keeping this guy happy, it hasn't stopped us from doing a few small projects here and there. We have a few things we need to finish up before we tackle the basement which will be a whole other series I'm sure. For now though, help us welcome this little guy into the renovation family! Three Nails One Hammer, indeed!

Finally some progress on our DIY custom built kitchen eating nook!

built this entirely on his own, based on his own design from a vision I had for this space. We've had our baby son since the first few pictures so we've been a little busy learning to keep a tiny human alive but I finally got around to painting the first coat. Next step is to hand sand the rough bits the paint revealed, caulk some of the gaps, add two more coats of paint and then finish with sealer. Once the bench is done, we got these awesome for the back to finish the look. I cannot wait to see this space finally done - it's been over a year in the making and I'm so over having unfinished products on the first floor.

We are finally tackling our kitchen bench for the eat in nook! This project was on hold while we finished just about everything else on our first floor. It then became a storage area for all our Costco purchases due to and now we decided it was time to finish the space. The framing is nearly complete. It will have oak sides and tops and we'll be able to lift up the lids and store items in the middle. I'll be painting the base white to match the cabinets and the backing will be a cushion because you would not believe the quotes I got on getting this done for us. So excited the vision is nearly there!!

Been on a bit of a hiatus as we enjoy these last few weeks of our pregnancy but that doesn't mean we haven't stopped working on projects for ourselves or our family and friends. My parents almost had a really big problem on their hands when one of the main galvanized pipes nearly burst. The house is old and sure these pipes lasted a long time but what a mess this could've turned out to be! had to crawl into the smallest of spaces above their shower (luckily my father had built an access point many years ago) and cut out all this piping while carefully avoiding the main water pipe to the whole house. 😬😡. He replaced the work beautifully with PVC piping and all is well once again. Now we just need to fix some of the damage in the basement this caused and it will be like it never even happened!

One day we'll renovate this bathroom for them too and get rid of that God awful pink πŸ˜‚

Spent an absolutely gorgeous day gardening. Got all my flower boxes in the front done while Eric mowed and detailed our lawn and then this afternoon, planted all our vegetables and flowers in the backyard. So proud that my pregnant butt still has it in her to get things done around the house.
Our veggies this year are cherry and Roma tomatoes, jalapeΓ±o and habanero peppers, pole beans, kale and brussels sprouts. Our herbs: rosemary, dill, sage, and basil. And of course can't forget our strawberries! The gangs' all here!
Absolutely exhausted but so pleased that spring is finally here and I get to play outside again!!

One of the main projects we started this weekend was to dust off our green thumbs and begin the super fun, very rewarding task of planting season! πŸ’šπŸ‘πŸ» It's too early to get started on my planters or veggie gardens but I did some serious weeding, mulched our gorgeous rose bush section (they are already beginning to bloom!) and replanted our sadly dead lavender bushes with these seemingly small grasses that will eventually grow into lovely large bushes that will sway in a late summer breeze. Finally, bought new planter pots for our front entrance and found these lovely lavender topiaries and white climber flowers for some much needed lift. I can't tell you how happy this has left me and I can finally taste spring in the air!
Even though I'm 5 1/2 months pregnant now, this didn't stop me from literally getting my hands dirty and certainly helped lift the heavy items.
Can't wait for May and my planter boxes and of course growing my own veggies. Definitely would help to alleviate some of the grocery shopping.

I love these doors. These doors were a pain in our ass. These doors were a custom 92" order because who doesn't want impressive tall doors? Get ready for me to say "doors" a lot. Doors.
It all started when we ordered the doors back in August. First, it took forever for me to find a design I liked in a solid core door. Then, because we were so tired from this renovation we decided to go with the pre-painted option, a bit more of an expense but it would save us time. It took 6 weeks for the four doors to get delivered. When they arrived, we noticed a slight problem. The door k**b holes were pre drilled at 29 3/4 height. On a 92" door. For any of you playing along at home, that's a problem. That's not even ADA approved height which is 34-48". We realized that the salesperson at didn't know that standard door k**b placements wouldn't work here. We didn't think to check (lesson learned). Instead of returning the doors and waiting another 6 weeks for them to be redelivered (because we hilariously thought we'd be done with everything by Christmas), we decided to fix them ourselves using which worked like a charm.
It's now the end of March and I can finally say they are done, patched up to perfection by and looking glorious. Everything from the frame and door hinge extras had to be redrilled, repainted (so no point in getting them pre-painted) and reoutfitted. To say these took more work than we ever thought possible is an understatement. The saga is now happily over and now I get to look forward to our teenage son one day slamming them shut. He'll never know why I'm really wincing in pain 🀣
