At The Ritz-Carlton Key Biscayne, Miami, a once-dark entry now opens through a sweeping glass facade, carrying the eye from arrival straight to the water. That connection shaped Hart Howerton’s master plan, architecture, and landscape design across all 17 oceanfront acres. Heavy hardscape gave way to a fountain terrace and climate-resilient planting. A beachfront once cut off by walls and dense plantings now opens through pathways and native coastal vegetation to the shoreline.

We’re thrilled to share that the Belle Haven Community Campus was awarded the 2026 METROPOLIS Magazine Planet Positive Award in the Design for Resilience Category.

The campus was designed as a resilient and adaptable civic hub for the historically underserved community in Menlo Park, California. The project consolidates a senior center, community center, youth center, recreational pools, and branch library into a single integrated campus, and advances resilience across three dimensions: building and operations; climate; and community.

From the pages of our Rome sketchbooks.

A closer look at what our team captured on our latest Art in Practice trip. Walks through the city turned into studies of its piazzas, fountains, and rooftops.

Honored to see Olde Naples Hotel featured in Condé Nast Traveler.

The original Olde Naples Hotel was once the town’s gathering place, and our design sets out to restore that role. The hotel holds to the scale of the two-story cottages around it, stepping back to let its historic neighbors lead. Today, longtime residents stop in for a morning coffee, a long lunch, or a nightcap, while travelers find their way into the historic heart of Naples.

With thanks to our project partners, and to Paul Rubio for the feature.

David Rau, Partner and Principal at Hart Howerton, is a leader in our hospitality practice on projects across the globe.

His approach traces back to an early career in theater, where he learned that atmosphere lives in the details, a lesson he now applies to designing hospitality experiences built around arrival and escape.

Rome has long been a destination for architects, artists, and designers to sketch and learn from its remarkable monuments and urban spaces. Art in Practice continued this tradition at the end of the summer with a sketching trip to the Eternal City. Early, mid-career, and senior members of our design team from across our offices came together for this immersive, 5-day experience, learning and refining observation and representation techniques among the city’s centuries-old monuments and ruins.

Sharpening our eye and our hand gives us a keen sense of design proportion and harmony, from the scale of a city to the finest architectural detail. This practice directly informs our ability to orchestrate a thoughtful, cohesive design, from an urban plan down to a column capital.

We’re grateful to Paul Blazek, Design Director, for leading Art in Practice together with a team of designers across our offices. The initiative is a cornerstone of our team’s culture of curiosity, collaboration, and connection.

Climb the stairs to the secluded second floor of Primland’s former horse stables and enjoy traditional bluegrass tunes and a southern supper. As part of Hart Howerton’s master plan, The Lodge at Primland, Auberge Collection expands its amenities beyond a collection of residences, reimagining existing structures across the landscape. The former stables are repurposed as a rustic gathering place, extending the resort experience deeper into the property.

Dagny is back, this time walking us through her research firsthand.

Her question: Do architecture and landscape shaped by Indigenous culture lead to better health outcomes? To find out, she traveled across the American West, visiting Indian Health Service Centers and talking with healthcare professionals and the communities they serve.

A great club is choreography as much as architecture. At Stonehill, a private retreat north of Bangkok, Hart Howerton was invited to design the complete environment: master planning, architecture, landscape, and interiors, all conceived as a single, unfolding experience.

The club takes shape as a series of pavilions, each distinct in character but part of one composition, moving from arrival through the lounges, dining venues, and spa to private guest villas. Five architecturally unique Tee Houses serve the course and practice facility, each one choreographed to carry you through gardens, courtyards, and terraces, with a new view waiting at every turn.
