This past weekend I visited La Jolla’s Museum of Contemporary Arts San Diego. The museum has been growing over the years. It was originally designed by Irving Gill in 1941. In 1996, Venturi Scott Brown designed an expansion. The most recent renovation in 2022 was by Selldorf Architects.

We saw a terrific show from the collection of Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz. The couple are local and very involved with the community. Bravo. Their art collection features the work of living artists, primarily brown and black, and the work is fantastic.

After enjoying the art, we drove to the Scripps Institute of Oceanography for a glass of wine overlooking the Pacific Ocean. A clever restaurateur took a former university cafe and transformed it into an elegant oceanside spot called Destiny Coast. And, yes, dear readers, it’s right next to the home of that lovely couple whose artwork is featured at the museum. See, it all comes full circle. What a lovely, generous and talented couple. So much respect. 💛✨

I’m here in San Diego attending the AIA Convention. Had a terrific tour of La Jolla mid-century houses yesterday. Ah-mazing.

Great arts festival in downtown Westport CT this weekend. The hat lady is amazing. The glass sculptures and blueberries. Love beyond. Grab an umbrella, stroll thru town, and check out the show. So many terrific artists. Def something for everyone. Open Sunday. ✨

I stopped by yesterday. It was opening day of . The show is a great place to understand trends in the furniture and design industry. What did I see? Polished metals, rich unapologetic color, soft shapes, lighting as sculpture, and in the section, some great experimental design. I know. I know. I’m late to the party. Finally had a chance to check out So easy to get there. 4/5 to Wall St and cross the street. I digress. Wow. It’s beautiful. OTT in the best possible way.

NYCxDesign is a week long design festival throughout the five boroughs of New York City. Lectures, tours, exhibits, and experiences are open to all.

I love visiting old projects. I was invited by a former client for a walkthrough of a home we designed a number of years ago. The house overlooks the Hunt Club in Westport CT and was designed in the modern farmhouse aesthetic just at the start of its popularity. The house was a finalist for a award and featured it in a story about farmhouses. Today’s visit was wonderful. It brought back so many happy memories. And it was just as good as I remembered it!✨
