Ben Affleck Admits He’s Always “Coming Up a Little Short” Compared to Ex-Wife Jennifer Garner When It Comes to This

When it comes to coparenting his three children with ex-wife Jennifer Garner, Ben Affleck admitted that she inadvertently “always makes me feel like I’m coming up a little short.” In a new interview on the “Sunday Sitdown” podcast with journalist Willie Geist on October 11, the actor called Garner “spectacular,” and said he told their kids, “‘I think I’m doing about 75 percent as good as your mom.’ And they’re like, ‘Maybe 40 percent.’”

“I’m maxing out,” Affleck joked. “B+.”

Affleck shares Violet, 20, Fin, 17, and Samuel, 14, with Garner, and told Geist of his ex-wife, “I respect her. I’m grateful for her.” The two married in 2005 before separating a decade later in 2015, ultimately finalizing their divorce in 2018. “I think the most important thing is, you know, having that mutual respect—being able to get along with that person,” Affleck said of Garner.

As he promoted his new film Animals recently, the Academy Award-winner said in an interview with Variety this week that he is “really, really grateful” for Garner.

Back in July, Garner told Entertainment Weekly (per Us), “My kids are a little bigger [now]. Their dad…has become this incredible coparent.” She continued of Affleck, “He’s wonderful. He takes care of them. He’s a great partner in that way. And that’s very freeing.”

“And I have this unbelievable [business] partner who produces with me things that we control and are able to keep in L.A.,” she added. “I love making movies anywhere, but I really want to make movies at home.”
