🍁🍂 Remembering this beautiful home with all of the gorgeous fall colors and dramatic sunlight this weekend! .....

Intimately folded into the hilly landscape, TinkerBox is a private hideaway which sparks inspiration to create.

Surrounded by idyllic wooded terrain at the foothills of the Catskill Mountains, TinkerBox functions as both a weekend retreat and workshop. A place to indulge creative passions, the peaceful getaway carves out dedicated space for both building furniture, and tinkering with antique cars.

A careful study of the undulating landscape and movement of the sun led to the home’s exacting placement on the site. Partially embedded into the hillside, the orientation optimized for light and views while intimately allowing the home to become an extension of the land.

Set in a gently sloping meadow surrounded by a dense forest in Accord, New York, Wass House is a modern renovation of an existing gabled house.

This was certainly the most talked about photograph during our 3 days FIELD + SUPPLY this past weekend. Wass House had a lot of fans! And the model was definitely the favorite of the kids - pretty sure it was the pool that sold them!💙

Transforming the home from one volume with a large backyard to a multi-volume home with a courtyard and pool, Wass House fulfills our clients’ wishes of hosting their children and future grandchildren, and guaranteeing a fun, spacious, and memorable stay.

Completely reinventing the way they experience their existing home, we’ve designed a new formal entry. This entry takes form as a long glass hallway that connects the existing home, new garage and artist studio to the new main suite. Bringing in a modern, transparent, and elegant element balances the two private black barn structures. The glass walls also allow guests walking towards the home to peer into the courtyard, pool, and pool house just beyond, fostering excitement and possibility of what memories lie ahead.

We’re heading back to Field + Supply this weekend, and this time we’re bringing houses with us…small ones!

From October 9 to 11, Studio MM is at Fall MRKT at Hutton Brickyards in Kingston with an architectural exhibition our team curated: Residential Architecture in the Hudson Valley. We’re presenting alongside Keira Ritter of Keira Ritter Design Co., a fellow local architect, and we’re proud that the show features the work of two women who both live and practice in the Hudson Valley.

Our September newsletter is out, and it was a good month. 💙

We made two Forbes lists for 2026: America's Top 200 Residential Architects and Best-in-State Residential Architects for New York. We also got back from the CRAN® Symposium in San Antonio, where one of our own presented Studio MM's best practices for using AI as a tool (not as a design tool, to be clear). She was fantastic, and we couldn't be prouder.

There's more in this month's issue:
🏡 VIA43 is featured in New England Living
📖 Ask an Architect: how we turn a folder of inspiration into a real house
🎂 Studio MM turns 16, and Ma**ca is part of the upcoming book Women of Architecture
🏗️ Project updates from projects in design and under construction.

Catch up on Studio MM's September, including our 2026 Forbes recognition, highlights from the CRAN® Symposium, VIA43 in New England Living, and updates from the studio and job sites.

At VIA 43 the landscape has been shaped as an extension of the architecture itself. The carefully planned outdoor spaces surrounding the home blend fruit trees, flowers, beautiful lavender bushes, and various ornamental grasses. Plantings follow the rhythms of sun and shade, take cues from visual corridors inside the home, and evolve with the changing seasons.

The courtyard off of the kitchen provides a sunny spot for morning coffee in the winter while the peach and pear trees in that space provide perfect shade for lunch outdoors in the summer.

We just returned from visiting San Antonio, TX for the 2026 CRAN® Symposium — four days of sessions on current topics in residential architecture, including a panel on Design It Yourself houses, and conversations about directing AI without losing human judgment and partnering with landscape architects and lighting designers. Highlights included a keynote from Evan Morris of Lake|Flato about craft and architecture, and a closing day that covered authenticity in the American house followed by a panel on the architect/builder relationship.

The house tour — always a favorite of any CRAN® Symposium — included an array of custom homes that epitomize San Antonio, by architects Cotton Estes, Craig McMahon, Tobin Smith and three by Lake Flato. One of the week’s standout moments: an evening at the Briscoe Western Art Museum.

Grateful as always for the chance to connect and be inspired by residential architects from across the country. Already looking forward to next year!

One more thing to celebrate this week.....

09/17/2026

It’s hard to believe summer is already behind us! The studio has been full speed ahead these past few months, with projects moving through every stage from first sketches to move-in day. Here’s a look at what the team has been up to.

A fall studio update from Studio MM: new projects starting design, major construction milestones, and news on our 16th birthday and Ma**ca's book feature.

09/16/2026

It's our 16th birthday this month, and we're celebrating all week long! 🎉

This one's for our clients. 🙏💙

Confession: this took some digging! When you usually photograph projects instead of people, client photos are rare. What you see here is just a handful of the incredible clients we've been lucky enough to work with. Thank you for trusting us, growing with us, and giving us so much to be proud of.
