Wright Architects is a firm of architects, interior designers, and supporting staff based in New York. Over the last eight years, we have designed award-winning projects in a wide range of residential, institutional, and commercial work. We practice in a variety of styles - both historical and current - and strive to combine the very real, pragmatic needs of modernity with our historic architectur

al influences. We study and integrate all aspects of a designed environment into our projects. The landscapes, buildings, and interiors all influence each other, creating a richness the parts alone cannot achieve. The hand knows things the screen does not.

Watercolor slows observation to the pace of understanding. Every brushstroke is another opportunity to study proportion, light, geometry, and place. By the time the painting is complete, I’ve learned something I couldn’t have discovered by simply taking a photograph.

That way of seeing has informed my work from the very beginning.

Some clients come to us with a clear idea of how they want to live. This client had admired Frank Lloyd Wright’s late Usonian houses for years and wanted that same sense of warmth, simplicity, and connection to the landscape.

We organized the home around a central great room, with separate wings for everyday living and visiting family, creating a house designed to grow into retirement while welcoming generations to come.

For this new house in Southampton, we designed the kitchen as a bright, central hub that flows naturally into the formal spaces. Wide pocket doors slide open to connect the green-walled kitchen to the living areas, while a barrel-vaulted pantry guides the transition to the dining room. The result is a home that lives the way people actually gather today, with the kitchen open at the heart of everything rather than tucked away.

One of our Shingle Style projects in the Hamptons. The owners wanted a large house that would still feel comfortable and livable, so we organized the plan as an X. From almost any vantage point, you see no more than two of the four wings at once, allowing the house to read as a collection of connected pieces rather than a single monumental structure.

Inspired by the work of Edwin Lutyens, William Ralph Emerson, and Peabody & Stearns, the house is rooted in historic precedent while designed for contemporary life.

It was a pleasure joining my good friends Kligerman AD and T.S. Adams Studio Architects at Nantucket by Design for a conversation on how travel, observation, and drawing continue to shape our work.

Set on one of the early Tillinghast courses of the Hamptons, this clubhouse was conceived as a series of classical pavilions open to the golf landscape. All major rooms open to decks and porches, creating easy summer living between inside and out. Parts of the club recall traditional Shingle Style forms and details, with fish scale shingles, peaked dormers, and sweeping eaves. The grille pavilion suggests the ballroom of the original clubhouse, a converted boathouse from the mid-1800s.
