What Actually Happens During an AC Tune-Up π§
Most homeowners assume a tune-up means someone walks around the unit, nods a few times, and hands over a bill. Fair enough β nobody's ever shown them otherwise. Here's what it actually is. We test the capacitor, because that's the part that fails most and takes the compressor down with it. We check amp draw, because a motor pulling more current than it should is telling you it's wearing out. We read refrigerant pressures, because low refrigerant makes your system work twice as hard for the same cooling. Then comes the physical work: cleaning the condenser coil so it can release heat properly, changing the filter, clearing the condensate drain line before it blocks and floods your floor, and tightening every electrical connection, because a loose one burns out a contactor eventually. None of that is inspection β it's maintenance, and almost all of it prevents something expensive. That's the whole value. You're not paying someone to confirm your AC works. You're paying them to find the small problem while it's still small.
