A car park that also generates energy.
The car park at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead in Sydney demonstrates how even the most functional infrastructure can become an active and sustainable element.
The north façade incorporates 90 units of Onyx Solar crystalline silicon photovoltaic glass, custom-made in a terracotta colour and measuring 2,700 × 975 mm. Integrated directly into the building envelope, this solution combines clean energy generation, solar protection and architectural design.
Developed by CCG Architects and Kane Constructions, with the collaboration of Metz, the project transforms the traditional image of a car park through a façade that responds to its surroundings while improving the building’s energy performance.
The facility provides more than 1,000 parking spaces and 75 electric vehicle charging points, reinforcing the hospital’s commitment to more efficient, future-ready infrastructure.
Architecture, functionality and energy integrated into a single façade.
