Last week, McKissack’s Dean Robateau, Chief Development Officer, & Nicole Daniel, Construction Lead Development Officer, participated in the second annual ELEVATE Partner Retreat in Michigan. The retreat, presented by Barton Malow, invited a selected group of regional partners of Barton Malow together for conversation, learning, and relationship building. Designed to foster strong partnerships, share insights, and discuss advancements in the construction industry, the retreat is built around a shared commitment to strategic partnerships which ultimately drives innovation and strengthens projects.

As representatives of McKissack, Dean and Nicole attended educational sessions from Barton Malow’s project managers including a LEAN presentation, participated in a fireside chat with Barton Malow’s CEO & COO, networked with industry colleagues, and caught a ball game with Barton Malow Project Executive Chris Masters.

On September 20th, Team McKissack was honored to participate in the 57th Annual African American Day Parade (AADP). The organizers assert that their sole mission of highlighting African American culture, heritage and unity, while showcasing the best and brightest of our vast community while commemorating the legacy of our collective Ancestors.

This year’s parade theme, “Good Businesses Sustain Our Future,” highlighted Black-owned business & community leaders, 40 Floats, 375 Community Based Organizations & 9000 spectators. Our President and CEO, Albert Odjidja stood in for Cheryl McKissack Daniel as one of three Grand Marshals marching with NEW (Nontraditional Employment for Women) and Local 79 Laborers Union members. The parade covered the length of Harlem on Adam Clayton Powell Blvd, led by the Famous Tiger Marching band of Grambling State University.

The McKissack Accounting Department recently took a break from the numbers and spent time learning about marine construction at Pier 94. Hosted by the McKissack Marine team, the accounting team toured the site office and active marine work at the pier plus received a safety briefing complete with an outfitting of PPE. The visit was enjoyed by all and gave the accounting team a new understanding of the daily challenges experienced by our project teams.
