What if architecture could learn from plants? 🌿

Join us to celebrate the launch and talk of Monsters & Mutants: Explorations in the Architecture–Nature Continuum; our fifth monograph published by Park Books, Switzerland, and designed by Ben Fehrman-Lee.

The book presents a provocative vision for moving beyond the consequences of the Anthropocene, imagining Hybrids and Earth Buildings that blur the boundaries between nature and architecture. By learning from organic intelligence, these new architectural forms seek to be more resilient, resource-efficient, and beneficial to both humans and non-humans, with the potential to help heal our ecosystems.

Lavishly illustrated and with contributions from esteemed architects and theorists such as Carlo Ratti, Thom Mayne, Mette Ramsgaard Thomsen and Justin Korhammer.

The evening will feature a special talk and book signing at Boffi|DePadova New York.

Designed for a family of four, the residence combines 216 SF of outdoor space with a four-dimensional layout that creates intricate interplay of movement, perspectival shifts, and diverse materialities.


At the center of the home is a triple-height open space connected by a custom curved steel staircase spanning all three floors. Carefully folded, optimized geometries transform this compact residence into a dynamic, multi-layered interior landscape.


The project offers a refreshed take on the “machine for living” suited to today’s ecological and systematic design mindset.

Shaping the future of the built environment through dialogue, leadership, and collective action.

We’re happy to share that Winka Dubbeldam, Founder & Principal of Archi-Tectonics and CEO of SCI-Arc, will be joining the Beverly Willis Architecture Foundation’s Industry Leaders Roundtable Retreat in Los Angeles this Thursday.

Bringing together leading voices from across architecture, engineering, preservation, and the broader AEC industry, the retreat will explore the intersections of historic preservation, urban futures, innovative design, and climate action; creating space for meaningful conversation, collaboration, and new perspectives on the future of our cities.

Winka will join an exceptional group of industry leaders for this important exchange with her talk "Synthetic Natures: An Architecture-Nature Continuum", contributing with her perspective on architecture, innovation, and the evolving role of design in shaping more resilient and inclusive environments.

ARCHI-TECTONICS AT PHOTOSYNTHETIC CITIES 🌿

How can architecture and landscape work together to build more resilient cities?

This Thursday, Winka Dubbeldam, CEO of SCI-Arc and Founding Principal of Archi-Tectonics will join Photosynthetic Cities, convened by the Yale Center for Ecosystems and Architecture (Yale CEA) at the AIA New York Center for Architecture.

As part of the Photosynthetic Cities forum, Winka will present Archi-Tectonics’ Asian Games Park in Hangzhou, exploring Synthetic Natures: how integrated architecture, landscape, and Sponge-City strategies can support ecological resilience and new forms of urban life.

The discussion brings together leading voices from architecture, science, policy, and practice to examine the connections between clean air, water, food systems, biodiversity, and drought resilience—and how research can translate into actionable urban design.

BK Vertical Loft, Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn

We are delighted to announce the completion of the BK Vertical Loft, a 5,955 sf duplex penthouse in the heart of Carrol Gardens/Brooklyn, that we transformed from a former industrial workshop into a spectacular, light-filled family home. We are especially proud that the project has just been selected to receive a 2026 SARA National Design Award for its innovative approach to adaptive re-use.

Our design reimagines the existing structure as a sequence of interlocking spaces and dramatic vertical voids, allowing natural light to pe*****te deep into the building. At the heart of the building, a triple-height atrium with glass roof above connects the living and dining spaces with the upper levels, creating a continuous vertical landscape that encourages openness, visual connectivity, and shared family life. Topping the penthouse is a 2,400-sf rooftop terrace with a sun deck, trellis pergola, outdoor kitchen and dining area, as well as an urban garden overlooking the surrounding skyline.

Emerging from our work on the 2023 Asian Games Master Plan in Hangzhou, Monsters & Mutants asks how we can design not against nature, but with it.
