A solid wall could define the staircase opening. It could also block the light, interrupt the sightlines, and visually separate the two levels.

The glass system solves both sides of the equation.

Clear panels preserve the visual connection through the space, while the black aluminum frame gives the opening a precise architectural edge.

For architects and contractors, details like this are rarely about selecting a standard wall system. The dimensions, corners, transitions, and connection points all need to be developed around the actual site conditions before production begins.

This Manhattan marketing agency already had its own architectural language: an open mezzanine, exposed ceilings, structural beams, built-in shelving and visual connections between two levels.

The challenge was to create a defined workspace without making the upper floor feel enclosed - or introducing a system that looked added as an afterthought.

We installed a custom partition system with 1/4" clear glass and matte black aluminum framing.

The transparent panels preserve the long sightlines across the studio, while the dark frame follows the existing industrial details throughout the space.

The result is a workspace with more separation, without losing the openness that gives the agency its character.
