One loose brick is rarely the problem.

It's the symptom.

Masonry works as a system. Every unit carries load and passes it to the one beside it. When one comes loose, that load doesn't disappear — it redistributes to its neighbours, and they start taking more than they were built for.

So the question is never "why did this brick move."

It's what moved it. Failed mortar. A corroded relieving angle expanding behind the wall. A lintel that's deflected. Missing ties.

Fix the brick and you've fixed nothing. The cause is still there, still working.

The sidewalk shed is what people notice.

The roof is where the actual work was.

133 Wooster is a SoHo loft with detail worth protecting — and a roof-to-parapet junction that had run out of service life. That transition is where water intrusion usually begins. Not the wall face.

So we followed the water.

New multi-ply SBS modified bitumen membrane. Parapets taken down selectively and rebuilt. Structural work where it was warranted. Cornice detail restored, not covered over.

Rebuilt right, a parapet protects the façade beneath it for decades.

Rebuilt cheap, it becomes an emergency in five years.

WE'RE HIRING — Manhattan, NYC

Aarco Contracting is looking for a part-time On-Site Content Creator to capture photos and videos from our active construction and restoration sites across NYC.

The role:

Shoot photo/video content on real job sites before/afters, progress shots, and behind-the-scenes
Document the company President during site visits and walkthroughs
No equipment needed; we provide everything, including the camera phone

Who this is for:
Students, freelancers, and early-career creatives based in NYC. Editing skills and brand-building experience are a plus, but if you don't have them yet, you'll learn hands-on.

The details:

$20–$30/hr, based on experience and interview
Part-time minimum 16 hrs/week, flexible scheduling
Serious portfolio-builder in construction and B2B content

A roof leak doesn't start as a leak.

It starts as an opening. A cracked sealant bead at a pipe pe*******on, a seam that's lifted a quarter inch. Nothing you'd see from the street, and nothing that shows up inside.

Then water gets into the insulation — and this is the part most people get wrong.

Water doesn't fall straight down. It spreads laterally through the insulation layer and finds the path of least resistance. By the time a stain appears on a ceiling tile, the entry point can be thirty feet away. The roof still looks fine from above.

Six months in, it's no longer a roofing issue. It's tenant complaints, interior repairs, and a scope you didn't budget for.

And saturated insulation can't be dried or patched. It comes out. That's tear-off, replacement, disruption to the tenants below, and emergency pricing instead of planned pricing.

Every stage in this sequence was preventable at Stage 1. The only thing that changed was how long it went unseen.
