We remodeled a bathroom/laundry room. The new tile, vanity, trim, and wallpaper really spruced this room up.

I love the way this job came out. The challenge was to replace the wood floor in the kitchen with tile. I removed the appliances, trims, and hardwood floors without damaging the cabinets, and put everything back as if it was always there. The homeowners were very happy and wrote a 5-star Google review.

I’m removing the paper! Check out the transition from the existing hardwood floor to the new tile. It’s smooth like butter.

It’s important to be organized. When I work I go task by task. I want to make sure that next time I need these clips they are ready to go. I love these tile leveling clips but that’s the one caveat that it takes considerable time and it’s tedious to take out the breakaway clips afterwards. My guys would be lazy to take them out right away. I hate lazy people.

I saw that the piece was a little bent but it was working fine. Until it snapped. I try to avoid making runs during the day but sometimes I have no choice. I’m glad they opened a Floor and Decor here on Staten Island because nobody else would have this part. I’d probably have to order it online.

With a job like this, sequence is very important. I have to start the tile where it will meet the hardwood floor (the money shot) and then go off from there into either direction. And, in this kitchen although it’s only 150 square feet of tile it’s taking 3 days to lay the tile because it has to be done in stages.

To keep the tile really low so I can match to the height of the existing hardwood floor, without using a saddle, I am using the wire mesh (chicken wire) method. I can’t level the floor like I would with a mud job or self leveling because I’d be too high so we keep the same slope we always had and match seamlessly into the existing hardwood floor. No steps. No saddles. No hazards.

Removing the existing hardwood floor without removing the cabinets is a challenge so I spent the first day just cutting the perimeter before the demo guy showed up. He was supposed to be there on day one but had to reschedule but I’m glad he did because I got to do the prep work without rushing through it.

Work smart. And hard. I generally work alone but there are times I need help carrying large and heavy items so it dawned upon me one day that I can have the demo guys help me. This way I don’t need to carry payroll and have a hand when I need it.
