Reddymade Architecture & Design

Reddymade Architecture & Design A leader in today’s global design culture, Reddymade Architecture and Design was founded by Suchi Reddy in 2002.

Since its inception, the firm has been lauded for its formal experimentation, its imaginative use of color and passion for innovative materials. Along with widely-praised commissions in New York – Reddymade’s headquarters – the firm’s projects extend from Los Angeles and Miami to Chennai, India. A sophisticated ‘sense of the new’ is evident in the firm’s current work: a kinetic rain-screen facade

being designed for a building in Chennai, a custom modular home in Beverly Hills, and a 264 unit condominium project in Sunny Isles, Florida, with lobbies designed by Karl Lagerfeld. The firm’s design that remade a former women’s prison in Manhattan into the Women’s Building, a center for the global women’s and girls rights movement, was one of thirteen finalists in the 2016 competition. A deep interest in contemporary art informs all work from high-end interiors to architecture. In all areas of architecture and design, Reddymade’s philosophy of pushing for design breakthroughs – both formal and expressive – remains more steadfast than ever.

Why Becoming.

Becoming is Suchi Reddy’s public sculpture in Surrey, British Columbia, a work rooted in her own experience as an immigrant. It embodies the transformation every immigrant moves through in leaving one land, adapting to another, and finding a new place to call home.

The form is designed as a flexing arch: a gateway that holds the liminal space every immigrant occupies, a journey into the unknown and a return to roots. Sculpted from strands of extruded, anodized aluminum, the curve twists and turns and always returns to the ground, opening a path for others to walk through and watch the colors shift as they move.

For Surrey’s multinational community, the intention was to celebrate the process of becoming oneself.

Watch the sketch come to life.

At Salt Point Residence, the first lines on paper already carried the geometry of the finished home. Designed with artist Ai Weiwei (), the addition takes its cue from the existing home’s hexagonal pavilions, transposing that geometry into two wings that reach toward the hilly landscape. A glass corridor connects them at a central living space, and low square windows frame the view at every turn.

A former dentist’s office on lower Fifth Avenue, reborn as a home for the way our founder Suchi Reddy actually lives.

At 375 square feet, it has been Suchi’s home since 2009. As both client and architect, she set out to answer a question she loves: how full a life can a small space hold? The answer is in every inch. Storage disappears into the walls, pale reflective surfaces push the boundaries outward, and daylight reaches the full depth of the apartment.

Then the detail that gives it away: a table set for eight. Proof that generosity is a matter of intention, not square footage.

Our West Village Residence reimagines an apartment for a couple devoted to midcentury modern design and a growing art collection. Within a small footprint, we focused on maximizing space and light.

In the living area, custom millwork in warm wood sets the tone: a slatted screen, radiator covers, and built-in cabinetry that read as one continuous element. Against it, the couple’s collection comes forward, from a painting by Dana Kirkpatrick and Bernie Taupin to a work by Cecily Brown. A woven Bambi chair by Rastad og Relling, a Mori lamp from Rich Brilliant Willing, and a vintage Moroccan rug round out the room.

In this Miami Beach residence, we wanted the art to live in conversation with the space rather than hang apart from it. We designed the interiors and custom furnishings, then sourced and curated the collection so each piece would settle into the room as though it belonged there. A brass-tiled hex stool, “Fanny Devito” by The Haas Brothers, picks up the terrazzo beneath it, set below a line drawing by Kate Shepherd. In the living room, works by Cameron Martin and Ellen Phelan hold their own beside a custom ombré sofa.

We designed this upstate New York spa around a single contrast: the stillness of stone against the movement of wood.

Rainbow Teak wraps the walls in continuous grain, and at the center we set a sculptural bench by Matthias Pliessnig, its woven curve holding the room’s one moment of motion. The custom ladder shelves, designed with RK Custom Furniture, extend that craft to the storage.

Happy birthday to our magnificent founder Suchi.

Celebrating another year of wisdom and all the wonderful people in her life. This year she spent her birthday at the monastery for morning prayers, and in a rare and wonderful moment, met the Dalai Lama and received his blessing.

A pool, for us, is architecture in another form. It holds light, extends a room toward the landscape, and creates a changing dialogue with its surroundings.

In this Miami residence, Jeremy Thomas’s sculpture becomes part of the pool composition, its form and color reflected across the water from morning to night.

At our Cherokee Residence, we designed the pool to sit quietly beneath the surrounding hills. Its long, reflective plane offers a calm counterpoint to the rugged landscape.

At this Shelter Island residence, we set the pool low into the landscape, its surface appearing almost level with the ground. A stone pathway leads through the lawn to meet it, and mature trees and a shingled garden structure frame it so it feels quietly embedded in the property.

At this Venice Beach residence, we designed the house to open fully to the lap pool through motorized doors, letting the water animate the exterior with dappled reflections by day and a gentle glow at night.
