A little room to grow.

At Loft-Within-A-Loft, an alternating-tread stair zigzags behind a translucent glass wall to reach a child's sleeping loft above a playroom. The arrangement gives the kids their own spaces while separating them from the apartment's dining area.

Our third project with longtime clients, this new South Florida home was designed around the marsh landscape beyond the site. Large openings pull the view through the living spaces to the pool, while a covered terrace with an operable pergola, bug screens, and hurricane screens creates a flexible outdoor room for Florida weather.

The project continues a minimal modern design language developed with the clients over two earlier New York projects, adapted here to a very different climate and setting.

At Hudson River House, the view begins before you enter.

The approach passes beneath the house and frames the Hudson through the carport. On the main level, floor-to-ceiling glazing opens the living spaces to the panorama.

At under 2400sf, the site-built house was designed for two owners who wanted a unique custom home after decades in Manhattan. Built-in storage and flexible guest/work areas allow the plan to stay efficient without giving up the view.

September might be the best time of year in Montauk.

At Surfside, the renovation was less about changing an already-special house than making it work better for the family living there—reorganizing arrival, cooking, gathering, sleeping and working while preserving and enhancing the strongest parts of the original architecture.

More room for family, friends, and long relaxing weekends.

A well-designed home accounts for the things people actually need to store, access, conceal, and use every day.

These built-ins do more than add storage. At the Upper West Side Apartment, custom millwork conceals wardrobes and a media wall while allowing spaces to shift between open and closed conditions. At the Wadia Residence, a long window bench absorbs children’s toys into the architecture of the living and dining room.

The practical requirements are specific to each family. The goal is to make them part of the architecture from the beginning.

At Millbrook Residence, the architecture is organized around the landscape.

The main level is divided into two wings along an axis that carries the approach through the entry and toward long views across the meadow. Close to the house, the landscape is more ordered; beyond, it loosens into restored native meadow.
