VAKOTA Architecture has been named a finalist in the 2026 A-List Awards, in the Kitchen Design: Modern category for The Gugs House.

The Gugs House is a carefully phased renovation that elevated a minimalist design through refined materiality, improved functionality and discreet performance upgrades.

At its heart is a sculptural kitchen defined by a custom stone feature and a dual expression walnut island, balancing craftsmanship with everyday function.

New Dramatists in New York City is a long standing playwright development centre housed in a former church and dedicated to shaping American theatre through time space and independence.

We were commissioned to undertake a feasibility study exploring the future of this landmark building. Options included renewal expansion with sensitive remodelling and full redevelopment each tested against zoning seismic and sustainability constraints while respecting the cultural significance of the site.

Our work is grounded in conservation led design where heritage is adapted not frozen ensuring continued use for generations of writers.

In Greenwich Village, VAKOTA has cleverly transformed a compact nursery school library into a fully adaptable, multi-functional space without expanding its footprint.

At the First Presbyterian Church Nursery School in Manhattan, VAKOTA Architecture reworked a constrained, landmarked interior into an environment that seamlessly supports learning, care and community. The room now functions as a children’s library, parental waiting area, kitchenette and after hours gathering space - without visual clutter or programmatic conflict.

VAKOTA Architecture is pleased to welcome Georgia Grabowski as a Summer Intern.

Georgia is a graduate student at the University of Hartford in the Master of Architecture program and joined us this week.

Over the coming months, Georgia will support the design team through 3D design development, architectural visualization and project studies across active residential work.

Her role will contribute to ongoing efforts in refining design presentation and exploring architectural concepts throughout the studio.

VAKOTA places strong value on creating meaningful opportunities for emerging designers and supporting the next generation of architects as they transition from academic study into professional practice. Internships are an important part of that commitment, providing hands on experience within a collaborative and design driven environment.

We look forward to Georgia’s contributions this summer and to the perspective she will bring to the practice.
