IF YOUR HVAC HAS A FILTER, WHY DOES DUST STILL GET INSIDE?

Sure, the filter helps but it doesn’t make the entire HVAC system dust-proof. The video is a good example of just how much can collect out of sight over time.Air is constantly moving through the system, and over time dust and debris can still make their way into areas beyond the filter. How much accumulates depends on the system itself, the filter being used, how well everything is sealed, maintenance history, renovations in the home, pets,etc. The filter is routine maintenance. Sometimes one simple addition can provide an extra layer of protection against an unexpected water leak.

On this project, our technicians installed a drip pan underneath a low-boy fan coil unit. The pan is positioned below the equipment to help collect water if a leak occurs instead of allowing it to reach the surrounding floor or structure.

It's especially worth considering when HVAC equipment is installed in a location where a small leak could quickly become a much bigger inconvenience.

Most people will never notice the drip pan once the installation is complete and that's exactly the point. It's there for the moment you hope never happens.

WHY IS MY AC LEAKING WATER?

Water around an HVAC unit or worse, dripping from a ceiling is one of those problems homeowners want answered quickly.

During cooling season, your AC naturally produces condensation. That water should collect in the drain pan and travel through the condensate drain line to its designated discharge point.

When something in that drainage system isn't working as intended - water may start showing up where it shouldn't.

That's why our technicians don't just look for the visible leak. We inspect the drain pan, drain lines, P-trap and connections, clean buildup when necessary, and test the drainage to make sure water is flowing to the proper discharge point.

WHAT IS A P-TRAP?

One issue we see quite often is an AC condensate drain line without a properly installed P-trap.
When the drain system isn't configured correctly, moisture can remain in the line and contribute to biofilm and buildup over time, increasing the likelihood of drainage issues.
The good news? Installing a P-trap is typically a straightforward upgrade.

WHAT IS A RETURN PLENUM?

In this video, our technicians are installing a new return plenum—the section that collects return air and directs it back toward the HVAC unit for filtration, conditioning, and recirculation.

In many New York properties, return-air pathways may be hidden above ceilings or built into tight structural spaces. Proper installation matters because gaps, poor connections, or an incorrectly sized return can affect airflow and allow dust from surrounding areas to enter the system.

This project required careful fitting and sealing to create a secure connection and support proper return airflow.

It may disappear behind the ceiling once the work is complete, but it remains an important part of how the entire HVAC system operates.
