Empty office floors in downtown Chicago are quietly turning into farms 🌱. A company called Farm Zero grows lettuce, herbs, edible flowers and microgreens inside old skyscrapers using hydroponic trays instead of soil. LED lights replace sunlight and water recirculates through the system. More than a quarter of downtown Chicago office space sits vacant today, giving farmers room to grow food right where people already live and work.
This means fresher produce for local hospitals and restaurants without long truck rides from California or Mexico 🚚. Chefs and doctors already order these greens every week, and students tour the farms to watch food grow indoors 🌿. A struggling office tower is quietly becoming a source of life again 💚.
