From studs to stunning! 🛁✨

This shower received a complete demo down to the studs before being rebuilt with the GoBoard® system.

Project details:

🔨 Tiled window returns with a window ledge instead of a niche
🔨 24-inch Better-Bench® from Daltile
🔨 16” x 36” Floor & Decor wall tile in a vertical straight-stack pattern
🔨 Earth-toned natural river rock on the shower floor

Because river rock is natural stone, we sealed it thoroughly before installation. This also helps it act as a grout release.

A little homeowner FYI: Natural stone inside a shower should generally be resealed about every six months. It’s beautiful, but it isn’t maintenance-free! For clients who want the least upkeep, I usually recommend larger tile, smaller grout lines, and no natural stone.

This brand new home started with a standard builder-grade fiberglass tub surround, but the homeowner was ready for something more modern, functional, and custom.

The old surround was removed and replaced with a beautiful tiled walk-in shower, complete with a 17” Better Bench for added comfort and convenience. The marble-look tile and hexagon shower floor give the space a clean, timeless finish that completely transforms the bathroom. 🔨🙌

🚨 THIS SHOWER WAS BRAND NEW.
And that’s exactly why what we found behind the tile was so surprising. 👀

The homeowners didn’t call us for a complete redo. They simply wanted a few damaged and chipped tiles corrected and planned to live with the rest.

But once we started removing those tiles, we discovered a much bigger problem.

⚠️ Tiles with very little mortar coverage
⚠️ Poor bonding behind the tile
⚠️ Chipped material that had been installed anyway
⚠️ Details that simply weren’t up to the standard a new shower should have

And here’s the thing…

A tile installation can look finished on the outside while telling a completely different story underneath.
