We’re delighted to welcome the newest member of the Almstead family — Diego Alvarez, born on August 10, 2026, to proud parents Belisario and Melissa Alvarez!

Belisario is a foreman at our New Rochelle branch and celebrated his ninth anniversary with Almstead earlier this year. One of our favorite Almstead traditions is welcoming new additions to our extended family with a special gift — a “100% Organic” onesie for every baby born to an Almstead team member. As you can see in the photo, little Diego is already proudly sporting his Almstead gear!

Congratulations to Belisario and Melissa on their beautiful new arrival! We wish the entire family a lifetime of love, laughter, and happiness.

A few neighbors asked us this week: is my leaning tree a problem?

Some trees grow with a gentle lean and are perfectly stable. The warning signs are a lean that's new or getting worse, soil or roots lifting on one side of the base, and cracks or splits in the trunk. If you notice any of these, it's worth having a certified arborist take a look before winter winds arrive.

At our annual Almstead Summer Picnic, we had the privilege of 𝗵𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝟭𝟴 𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗼𝘆𝗲𝗲𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝟯𝟮𝟬 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗯𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲 to Almstead Tree, Shrub & Lawn Care. Each year, we recognize employees for service milestones in five-year increments. This year’s honorees ranged from 5 years all the way to an Almstead first — 40 years of service.

That remarkable milestone belongs to 𝗔𝗻𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗼 𝗦𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗼, who joined Almstead at just 17 years old as a member of the ground crew. Over the past four decades, Antonio has served as a tree climber, equipment operator, foreman and, today, Operations Manager of our New Rochelle branch. His career is a wonderful example of the opportunities for growth and advancement within our company.

Our fall lawn services are currently underway on landscapes across New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. Here’s a short video featuring our PHC and Lawn Care Manager, Gregory Van Steinburgh, explaining some of our essential fall lawn services, including core aeration, overseeding and compost topdressing.

We also offer spot treatments for w**ds, slow-release fertilization and lime applications. Lime helps correct overly acidic soil by raising the soil pH, creating better growing conditions and helping turf make more effective use of available nutrients.

Our Hawthorne branch was the lucky winner of 100.7 WHUD’s “At Work Wall of Fame” Lunch! Office Manager Kristin Laughlin, who regularly listens to WHUD while at work, heard the contest being announced on the radio and decided to enter the Hawthorne team online.

Her entry paid off! Today, the WHUD crew stopped by the branch to deliver lunch for a dozen employees, generously provided by Pamela’s Traveling Feast in Newburgh. It was a fun surprise and a great opportunity for the Hawthorne team to take a break, enjoy a delicious lunch together, and celebrate their moment in the WHUD “At Work Wall of Fame” spotlight.

Seen in the pictures are Kristin with Matt Camarota (Branch Manager), Alia Crystal (Sales Admin) and the WHUD team.

What was once an overgrown property filled with invasive vegetation has been regraded and thoughtfully replanted to improve drainage, support the nearby wetland, and create a healthier environment for every tree and shrub. Water-loving trees like bald cypress, river birch, and red maple now anchor the landscape, complemented by winterberry holly, witch hazel, ferns, iris, Joe-Pye w**d, pink turtlehead, ornamental grasses, and many other carefully selected native and moisture-loving plants.
