Tinker Tip: Not all dead grass is irrigation related. If you notice “crop circles” in your yard, your water isn’t to blame! You have sod worms!

Pesky bugs and fungus can create chaos in your yard, and each one leaves a different sign, and each one likes a different environment, and while sod worms aren’t caused by irrigation, things such as fungus and chinch bugs aren’t caused! Fungus means too much water, and chinch bugs and even ANTS prefer dry under-watered climates. If you’re not sure what you have going on give us a call. While we can’t do anything about the sod worms, we can definitely optimize your system to minimize your yards hospitality to all the other pesky invaders!

Tinker Tips: Not all pipe breaks are obvious!

If you have low pressure on a zone but can't see an obvious leak, let the zone run for a few minutes then walk around the area. Well maintained grass roots can become so compact that they can block large ammounts of water from reaching the surface, resulting in whats known as a sod bubble. Your yard essentially turns into a waterbed! Though be aware that the bubble may not always be where the leak is, but rather where the water ended up. factors such as oak or shrub roots can route the water a decent distance from where the leak originated!

Tinker Tips: Decorative concrete donuts surrounding sprinkler heads do not provide protection from lawn mowers. Instead, they should be kept clean to ensure easy location.

If your lawn care provider is damaging your sprinkler heads, consider adjusting them to the proper elevation.

As a general rule, the top of the sprinkler head should be level with the base of the grass blades when not in operation.

Have a great Sunday y'all!

Tinker Tip: uneven ground causing a watering issue? Natural runoff will cause a zone to apply most of the water to the bottom of a hill, to avoid this split the watering times!

If you have a spray zone running or 20 minutes for a hill side, don't just add 10 minutes to the run time, instead reduce it to 15 minutes, and then set your timer to rerun it for another 15 minutes after the first program is done! this allows the first pass to wet the ground and the second pass to actually saturate, without creating a river at the bottom of the hill.

However the timers can be tricky and if you're not confident with your ability/understanding of your timers functions, it would be best to have a professional come out to set it for you to avoid causing fungus from oversaturation, or vegetation loss from underwatering. Happy Saturday!

Tinker Tips: Good pressure doesn’t necessarily mean efficient!

If you notice an isolated patch of dollar-w**d/pennywort in your yard, before calling for w**d and feed, turn on your irrigation zone for that area.

80% chance to be one of 2 fixable issues, you either have a leak, or there’s a sprinkler that doesn’t reach pass the grass!

(Or your looking at the manufactured water run off swell separating your house from your neighbor)

Either way, a few minutes can save you time, headache, and most importantly, MONEY!
