We've had a wonderful summer mentoring and working with five standout college students, Brennen Hitch, Robert Ferrygood, Aidan Dikeman, Logan Noel, and Aodhan Laiche. Last week they gave their end-of-summer presentations, where they discussed the projects they worked on, relayed lessons they learned, and demonstrated skills earned through months of hard work. Join us in wishing them the best of luck as they return to their classes!

Gibbs Construction is proud to have been part of this special project, the renovation and restoration of Chapel of the Immaculate Conception at Notre Dame Seminary. The project involved meticulous specialized painting, conducted by Conrad Schmitt Studios, that now graces the breathtaking 50-foot cathedral ceilings, showcasing intricate details that honor the Chapel’s sacred beauty. Additionally, we completed a restoration of the altar, ensuring the historical and religious significance was preserved. Serving as the General Contractor for this project, our team utilized six-story-high scaffolding to safely and skillfully execute this work. This project is a testament to our expertise in historical restoration and attention to religious detail. We are honored to contribute to preserving such an iconic and cherished landmark in New Orleans.

This month we're also celebrating Carpenter Darin Callen's 15th anniversary with Gibbs Construction! Since joining Team Gibbs 15 years ago he's become one of the steady hands our teams rely on, bringing skill, precision, and hard-earned experience to every project he touches.

Over his time at Gibbs, Darin has helped bring countless projects to life across the New Orleans area, always with the same quiet dedication and craftsmanship. As we celebrate 50 years of Gibbs this year, we're proud to celebrate 15 of them alongside Darin.

Our annual Christmas in July fundraiser was another huge success! Thanks to the fantastic efforts of our generous employees, we’ve collected a bounty of toys for the Manning Family Children's. Your kindness and generosity mean the world. Together we made the summer a little brighter! ☀️

Next up on our tour: the Bell Artspace Campus in Treme. This $25 million adaptive reuse project transformed 108,000 square feet across the former Andrew J. Bell and Ben Franklin schools into 79 affordable live-work units for local artists, cultural workers, and families.

The Bell School's Gothic main building dates to 1904, originally home to St. Joseph's Academy. Just next door sits the campus's oldest structure, a circa-1887 Gothic chapel modeled after a church in Bourg, France, now reimagined as 7,000 square feet of community and arts space. The 1927 Ben Franklin building rounds out the campus with 23 units that pair original exposed brick and high ceilings with modern amenities.

Vacant for 13 years before this project, the campus is now home to a thriving community, proof that historic preservation and neighborhood revitalization go hand in hand.

Fifteen years ago, Lauren Gibbs joined her father, founder Larry Gibbs, in the family business. Since then, she's served as estimator, project coordinator, project engineer, project manager, and executive in charge, before being named Vice President in 2017 and CEO in 2019, when she bought the company from Larry himself.

Under her leadership, Lauren has guided Gibbs through a pandemic, a hurricane, and more, all while growing the company and building a culture that encourages every team member to be autonomous, freethinking, and entrepreneurial. This year, as Gibbs celebrates 50 years in business, that vision carries forward stronger than ever.

Lauren, thank you for your leadership, your vision, and 15 years of dedication to Gibbs and building the the company into what it is today.

Join us for First Friday, our monthly networking meetings for subcontractors, vendors, and DBEs, this Friday! Gibbs team members will discuss upcoming bid opportunities and how you can best position your company for success, and you'll have an opportunity to network with Gibbs estimators and project managers as well as each other. Plus we'll be joined by ABC New Orleans/Bayou Chapter to hear all about what ABC can do for you and perks of membership.

Fifty years down, and we're just getting started. Last week Team Gibbs came together for our summer all-staff safety meeting, and it felt like the right way to step into the next 50 years: focused, prepared, and looking out for each other.

To mark the milestone, every team member received a custom Gibbs button down featuring an incredible original print by Lafayette artist Denise Gallagher, spotlighting some of our most iconic projects, and brought to life by local favorite Alon Apparel--we can't say enough good things about working with them both!

At the meeting we recognized Project Engineer Reed Gallagher with our Safety Spotlight award for setting the standard for the rest of the team. Kenner Fire led hands-on fire extinguisher training, with brave interns Brennen Hitch and Logan Noel tackling a simulated fire with nothing but a screen and good humor. Pelican State Outpatient shared practical tips for staying safe in the Louisiana heat as our crews head into peak summer, and after the meeting we all sat down for some amazing BBQ.

Here's to the next 50, built the same way as the first: safely, together.

We are proud to share that VPG Gibbs, our joint venture on the Living Learning Center at Xavier University of Louisiana, has received the Industry Award at the 2026 AIA New Orleans Center for Architecture and Design Design Awards!

This recognition means a lot to us. The jury's comments called out the unforeseen conditions our team faced during construction, and the way we responded: with ambition, creativity, technical expertise, and collaboration to keep the project moving without losing sight of the end goal. Congratulations should also be extended to Abry Brothers and Morphy, Makofsky for their work with us on the solution.

That kind of problem solving is what we aim for on every job. Congratulations to the entire VPG Construction-Gibbs team, project architect Jeffrey Stolier, and everyone at Xavier University who trusted us to see this one through.
