There are great wallpapers galore throughout this project (peep the office a few posts back), but we love that the selection in the primary bedroom is a bit more subdued. This lustrous linen chintz wallcovering is undeniably elegant, but the room feels anything but stuffy. The layered mix of textures and patterns gives the space a relaxed, comfortable, and lived-in feel.

On a quiet street near Audubon Park in New Orleans, the second floor of this two-story home was completely reimagined. The project included significant changes to the floor plan, a rear addition and updates to the home’s exterior. Our clients were a dream to work with, and we really enjoyed working alongside Brian Gille Architects and Baylor Pillow of Beep Design. We can’t wait to share more of this project, beautifully captured by Laura Steffan | New Orleans Photographer. We shared the new photos with the homeowner last week, and this was her response:

“You know how they say the pictures don’t do it justice? In this case, the pictures are absolutely doing it justice! They are so excellent. I can’t get over it.”

A fun side-by-side look at this kitchen before and after we renovated it. The existing stone, island pendants, and lower cabinetry feel completely refreshed alongside the new cabinetry and paneling.

It’s another great example of how not everything needs to be replaced to achieve a new look. Thoughtful updates and a mix of old and new brought the owners’ vision to life while making the most of some of the existing elements.

We got to hang with construction industry superstar Matt Risinger in person at Build Show LIVE in San Antonio last week! Lots of great demonstrations and a good opportunity to connect with builders from around the country who are also working toward a higher standard of building.

The Build Show is built around a simple idea: building to code isn’t enough. Their Build HD Standard challenges builders to go beyond minimum code requirements and use building science principles to build better-performing, more durable homes.

And if you’re interested in building science, check out the Build Show’s treasure trove of free videos. They’re committed to educating the industry and the broader building community, and there’s a lot of really good stuff in there.

Oui oui! A pair of built-in “French armoires” flank the doorway in this bedroom shared by two brothers. Designed by LKI, this cabinetry is another prime example of custom built-ins cleverly made to look like furniture.

We love this design hack for lots of reasons. For one, adding two traditional closets would have made the room feel considerably smaller. Historically, many New Orleans homes were built without closets, with armoires serving as a more flexible storage solution. And with our high humidity, storing clothing in a wooden armoire allowed for better air circulation than a damp, enclosed closet. In tandem, this design choice nods to our city’s French roots and historic approach to storage.
