Around New Orleans, you may know them as “Romeo spikes.” ❤️

Officially, these spiked security features are called “hedgehogs,” designed to discourage unwanted climbers from making their way over gates, walls and other entry points. As for the Romeo nickname? Local lore says they also helped keep amorous young suitors from climbing their way in. 😉

From lifting a city after Katrina to etching your name among the all-time greats, your leadership, heart, and Who Dat spirit have inspired generations. As you so powerfully said in your Hall of Fame speech: “New Orleans… you trusted me with the soul of the city and I would have died to protect that calling.”

We’re especially proud of the chapter we share. In 2007, George Rodrigue created this iconic Blue Dog portrait of you—raising funds for hurricane relief and the Brees Dream Foundation. That collaboration remains a powerful symbol of art, football, and New Orleans rising together.
