Exciting progress is happening at Isidore Newman School! Landis Construction has completed an extensive historic renovation of the Saratoga Building's first floor, turning it over to staff and students this week. This project was completed on an aggressive, expedited schedule, wrapping up in just 85 days and on time for the first day of school — a major lift and an accomplishment worth celebrating. Our crews made improvements to the first floor, including new offices for the Upper School and renovated restrooms. Our attention now turns to the historic Jefferson Building, first constructed in 1903. This will be a complete historic restoration with modern elements, including a new elevator, a new stairwell, renovated classrooms and offices, and site and facade improvements throughout; Landis will deliver this phase in time for the 2027 school year. We’ll be sharing more updates in the months to come!

Because there’s no single building, neighborhood or cultural tradition that can tell the whole story of New Orleans. Our architecture, neighborhoods, culture and people are all connected, and all are facing growing challenges.

In her latest Director’s Spotlight, PRC Executive Director Kristin Gisleson Palmer explores what makes New Orleans irreplaceable, from our city’s layered history and unique built environment to the very real threats of climate change, displacement, rising housing and insurance costs, and overtourism.

She also looks at why preservation needs to be part of the conversation about how New Orleans moves forward.

A bittersweet day here at Landis! Our 2026 interns are winding down for the summer, but we had a chance to learn what they've been up to.
