Project Spotlight: Patrick F. Taylor Science & Technology Academy

Designed by Perez, APC and VergesRome Architects, the Patrick F. Taylor Science & Technology Academy is a 99,762 SF learning environment created to support collaboration, exploration, and hands-on STEM education for students in grades 6–12.

Completed in 2013, the campus features 28 classrooms, specialized science and technology labs, flexible learning areas, a two-story Student Commons, and exposed building systems that serve as teaching tools themselves. The project has received multiple honors for its architecture, educational design, and sustainability, including the 2018 AIA Louisiana Award of Merit.

Project Spotlight: LSU Dental School and Health Sciences Campus Renovation

After Hurricanes Katrina and Rita caused severe flood and wind damage across LSU Dental School’s 25-acre campus, VergesRome Architects and Mathes Brierre Architects led a multi-phase restoration of 18 buildings totaling more than 500,000 SF.

The $76 million project included extensive remediation, flood mitigation, and close coordination with FEMA while portions of the campus remained occupied. A new elevated 65,000 SF Annex relocated critical operations from vulnerable lower levels, helping create a more resilient campus for dental education, research, and patient care.

Project Spotlight: Benet Hall at Saint Joseph Abbey + Seminary College

Following significant flood damage in 2016, VergesRome Architects restored Benet Hall as a modern center for education, performance, and community while preserving its Mid-Century Modern character.

The renovation transformed the original 614-seat auditorium into an intimate 450-seat lecture and performance hall and added an enhanced lobby, welcome center, gift shop, monastic museum, and updated building systems. Original wood slats, lobby benches, concrete planters, precast panels, and signage were carefully restored, while new acoustic treatments, lighting, audiovisual systems, glazing, and flood-resilient infrastructure prepare the building for continued use.

Completed in 2023, the project received a 2024 AIA New Orleans Adaptive Reuse / Renovation Design Award.

Project Spotlight: Morris Jeff Community School

VergesRome Architects and Fanning Howey designed the 106,212 SF Morris Jeff Community School to accommodate an ambitious educational program on a constrained New Orleans site while responding to the character and scale of the surrounding neighborhood.

The design draws from neighborhood colors and materials, using light exterior finishes, a first-story masonry band, oversized masonry units, and a flat roof to address the building’s substantial mass. Carefully planned window patterns bring abundant natural light into classrooms, administrative spaces, and general assembly areas, while steel and aluminum canopies provide sun protection and connect key areas across the campus.

Completed in 2014, the $25.6 million school includes state-of-the-art classrooms, offices, and administrative areas and was designed to meet LEED Silver standards.

Project Spotlight: Little Ivy Prep in Marrero, LA

Designed for InclusivCare in collaboration with Little Ivy Prep , this 5,265 SF daycare includes four classrooms, two large outdoor play areas, a multipurpose room, exam room, and onsite food prep area.

Since opening in 2023, the shared spaces have supported everything from daycare performances to vaccinations, staff training, and pop-up health clinics, extending the facility’s role well past the classroom.

Construction is officially underway on the reconstruction of the Arthur P. Clay Community Center in Kenner.

The new center will restore an important resource for families and residents in South Kenner, with support from the City of Kenner, Jefferson Parish, and InclusivCare.

For VergesRome Architects, the project also marks our fifth project with InclusivCare, continuing a relationship that includes clinic projects in Marrero and Avondale.

We look forward to seeing the Arthur P. Clay Community Center return as a place that serves the Kenner community for years to come.
