Illinois has had the most tornadoes so far in 2026; keep yourself updated on the weather and stay safe.

~Tornado Outbreak This Afternoon/Evening~

As a morning complex continues to move east/southeast, expect scattered damaging wind gusts through central IL. Then, rapid destabilization/atmosperhic recovery is expected for a more significant second round of severe weather. Semi-discrete/discrete supercells should develop during the mid-afternoon hours and move east/southeast through the evening. Strong, long-tracked tornadoes and very large hail are the main threats. In the red area has the best chance for strong tornadoes. An upgrade to a level 5/5 (high risk) is unlikely as I rarely issue those.
