☀️As summer winds down and the days begin to shorten, we’re holding onto daylight.

Large windows do more than brighten up a room. They connect interiors to the landscape, make spaces feel more open, and bring changing light and views into everyday movement in a home.

A few ways to make the most of natural light:
🔷Picture windows bring expansive views and abundant natural light into a space.
🔷Clerestory windows bring light in from above while maintaining privacy and leaving wall space available for furniture or artwork.
🔷Floor-to-ceiling windows maximize both daylight and connection to the outdoors, making a room feel larger and more open.
🔷 Bay windows project beyond the exterior wall, creating a sense of added space while bringing light in from multiple directions.

As we head toward shorter days, we’re grateful for the homes designed to make the most of every hour of light. Here’s to holding onto a little more daylight, for a little longer.

A client recently shared a story with us that perfectly captures something that defines the Silver Maple culture: finding the right solution, not just the quickest one.

During the construction of their home, the vanity for a Jack-and-Jill bathroom arrived one inch longer than originally specified. The walls of the two adjoining, identically sized bedrooms had already been built.

The homeowner asked: Which one of the kids’ bedrooms will get shorted?

Our carpenter crinkled his brow and replied, “Neither; I moved each wall a ½ inch.”

This preserved the balance of both rooms and made space for the vanity without compromising the design.

As the client put it, “I would have definitely moved one wall one inch and been done with it, but not Silver Maple!” 😊

It’s a small detail, but it says a lot about how we approach our work. Sometimes, the difference is just an inch (or half an inch), but Silver Maple takes the extra time to get it right.

We’re grateful to our clients who notice those details and take the time to share their stories with us.

Some of our favorite project photos share the same feature, but it might not be what you expect.....a four-legged friend.

We spend a lot of time talking about the people who make Silver Maple what it is. But today, in honor of International Dog Day, we’re giving some of the other important members of our extended team their moment in the spotlight, including our unofficial Silver Maple office dog, Hadley!

From dogs supervising from the jobsite, testing out a finished space, to the pups waiting at home for our team at the end of the day, our four-legged friends have made appearances in Silver Maple projects and are part of our everyday lives.

Today (and everyday) we’re celebrating the dogs who make life (and sometimes construction sites) a little more fun!

On August 17, our Silver Maple crew joined artist Matt Heywood and the Better Middlebury Partnership to install a new mural on Bakery Lane.

The wheat sheaf motif and new street signage are a beautiful addition to downtown Middlebury, and we’re thrilled to have been part of the team bringing this project to life.

We love seeing our team’s skills extend beyond the jobsite and into the places we call home.

Wallpaper is back! And its versatility has evolved.

In our latest blog, we explore how wallpaper has evolved, why it's trending again, 7 wallpaper trends we're seeing this year, and ways to use it in your home today.

Our interest in the resurgence of wallpaper started with a recent visit to the Henry Sheldon Museum in downtown Middlebury, where we attended 'Wallpaper Revealed: The Artistry of Wallpaper', a presentation exploring the history, artistry, and craftsmanship behind wall coverings.

Seeing historical patterns alongside the techniques used to create them was a great reminder that the craftsmanship behind some of the patterns that have influenced interiors for generations.

Now, it's less about following a trend and more about an opportunity for design. It can be art. It can reflect a particular moment in design. And, when thoughtfully chosen, it can have remarkable staying power.

From heritage patterns and oversized florals to scenic murals and the “fifth wall,” we're seeing wallpaper return with a distinctly modern perspective.

20 years ago, Silver Maple started with 3 employees, 2 founders, and 1 instinct: build cool stuff well.

Our growth wasn’t initially planned. It is the result of repeatedly saying yes to interesting projects for good people.

And every time we said yes, we learned something.
🔷 A basement shop became The Woodworks
🔷 One demanding project normalized our panelization methods
🔷 A major build helped us refine building at a distance
🔷 A mass timber hangar necessitated Silver Maple Aviation
🔷 Methods developed while building the impossible generated the Achievables
🔷 Demand for complex systems sparked Silver Maple Mechanical

Today, we’re 90 people across 9 divisions and we’re still following the same pattern:
🔷 Identify the impossible.
🔷 Achieve it.
🔷 Normalize it.
🔷 Repeat.

Twenty years in, we’re grateful for our employees and their families, clients, collaborators, challenges, and opportunities that brought us here.

And we’re even more excited about what’s next.
The next chapter is already being built.
