Today, September 12, we honor the birthday and memory of Ken Jr.—a devoted husband, father and grandfather who proudly carried the Mack Saw legacy forward.
After the passing of his father, Ken Sr., in 1994, Ken Jr. continued operating Mack Saw in Lakewood, New Jersey. In 2003, he moved the company to New Egypt, where it remains today.
Ken Jr. was one of the last of a rare breed of true saw makers. He could begin with an empty steel plate and transform it into a beautiful, precision-made carbide-tipped saw blade. His knowledge, craftsmanship and ability to work with his hands were extraordinary.
He was also affectionately known as the king of “jig-rigging.” If something broke, Ken would study it, work with it and somehow find a way to make it run again. Throwing something away was rarely his first answer.
Outside the shop, Ken was an accomplished musician. For many years, he spent his weekends performing with his band, The All Nighters. Music was another special part of the talented and creative man he was.
Most importantly, Ken was a loving and devoted husband, father to two daughters and one son, and a very proud grandfather. He had seven grandsons and, for the longest time, one granddaughter. His youngest granddaughter was born after his passing, but she will grow up knowing the stories, love and legacy of the grandfather she never had the opportunity to meet.
Mack Saw was always a family business in the truest sense. Over the years, the family made deliveries, kept the books and worked alongside Ken in the shop. Everyone played a part in helping him continue what his father had started.
Following Ken Jr.’s passing, his son, Ken III, took over the shop and continues the work today—preserving the craftsmanship, determination and family legacy passed from one generation to the next.
Happy Heavenly Birthday, Ken Jr.
You were a craftsman, a musician, a problem-solver and the heart of our family. You are loved, deeply missed and remembered in everything we continue to build.
Three generations. One family legacy. Carried forward with love and pride.
