Buying land for your future home is exciting, but finding the right property is about more than just finding a view you love.

1. Know your all-in budget:
Before you start shopping for land, get pre-approved so you know what you can comfortably spend on the entire project.

2. Ask for a survey:
Don’t purchase a property without understanding exactly what you’re buying. A survey will help identify boundaries, easements and other conditions that could impact where or how you build.

3. Understanding the cost of developing the property:
The price of the land is only part of the equation. Clearing, utilities, topography and other site conditions can all affect your overall project budget.
