MOUNT OF TRANSFIGURATION
--------------------------------------------------
Mark 9:2-8
[2]Six days later Jesus took Peter, James, and John, and led them up a high mountain to be alone. As the men watched, Jesus’ appearance was transformed,
[3]and his clothes became dazzling white, far whiter than any earthly bleach could ever make them.
[4]Then Elijah and Moses appeared and began talking with Jesus.
[5]Peter exclaimed, “Rabbi, it’s wonderful for us to be here! Let’s make three shelters as memorials—one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”
[6]He said this because he didn’t really know what else to say, for they were all terrified.
[7]Then a cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my dearly loved Son. Listen to him.”
[8]Suddenly, when they looked around, Moses and Elijah were gone, and they saw only Jesus with them."
Beloved, I will like us to look at the significance of the occurrence on the mountain where Jesus transfigured... what does it depict?
Moses and Elijah appeared to Jesus on the mountain talking to Him where His clothing changed into dazzling white. Moses and Elijah represent two things;
1. The law
2. The Prophets
The old testament consist of the law and the prophets... and these books prophesies about the Messiah, Jesus said "it is written of me in the law of Moses, the prophets and the psalms" See: Luke 24:44
¶THE LAW
The Bible says "The law came through Moses" John 1:17, Beloved, therefore Moses stands for the law, sometimes called the "law of Moses"
¶THE PROPHETS
Elijah appeared to represent the Prophets, Prophets are forruners and mouth piece of God. Elijah represents the Prophets this is seen in the description of John the Baptist being a Prophet, is said to have come with "The spirit of Elijah" (See: Luke 1:17)
THE SIGNIFICANCE AT THE MOUNTAIN
---------------------------------------------------------------
Beloved, they disciples saw Jesus, Moses and Elijah in communication;
Jesus= The righteousness of God
Moses= The law
Elijah= The prophets
Beloved, Jesus is the righteousness of God revealed (2 Cor 5:21), therefore when Christ came to fullfill what is written of Him in scriptures, he needed to reveal Himself to the witnesses of the Messianic promise in person as the righteousness of God was revealed in person, therefore there was need for that encounter on the mountain.
Jesus said; "Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to FULFILL." Matt 5:17kjv (Emphasis)
Beloved, Jesus is the Messiah and He came to fulfill what is written of Him in the Law and Prophets and thus the scriptures witnesses this truth about Jesus.
The Apostle Paul by the Holy Spirit describes this seen...
Romans 3:21 kjv (Emphasis)
"But now the RIGHTEOUSNESS of GOD without the law is manifested, being WITNESSED by the LAW and the PROPHETS;"
Beloved pay close attention here: Paul said the RIGHTEOUSNESS OF GOD being WITNESSED by the LAW and PROPHETS, yes, that was what happened on the mountain of transfiguration where Jesus who was the righteousness of God in person was being witnessed in persons by the law and prophets which are Moses and Elijah respectively.
REVELATIONAL TRUTH ON THE MOUNTAIN
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Afterwards, the Bible says;
"Then a cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is My dearly loved Son. LISTEN TO HIM.”
Suddenly, when they looked around, Moses and Elijah were gone, and they SAW ONLY JESUS with them." Mark 9:7-8 (Emphasis mine).
Beloved, pay close attention here: after this encounter the voice of God said "LISTEN TO HIM" and they saw ONLY JESUS with them, Moses and Elijah were gone, only the righteousness God was standing with them; ONLY JESUS!!
God says listen to Jesus... there's no other righteousness, God has spoken; the Bible says;".... but in these last days He has spoken to us by His Son" Heb 1:2a
LISTEN TO JESUS... Not Mary, not Mohammed, not Buddha, not the world etc. Listen to Jesus; He is the salvation and the revelation of the Creator to all humanity.
Listen to Him..any other voice are the voices of strangers
Jesus said;
"I Am the Way and the Truth and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." John 14:6
Only Jesus... Listen to Him, my brothers and sisters who are you listening to? Jesus came to establish the new covenant where we can bodly approach the throne of God and God's righteousness is available to us.
Who are you listening to?...God says;
"Listen to Him".... Listen to Jesus
The Holy Spirit says "Today if you hear His voice don't harden your heart"
Listen to Jesus!!!
AMEN!
Remain blessed.... please share!
