Pop-up thunderstorms are just part of summer in Eastern North Carolina. โ›ˆ๏ธ But this one came with a pretty costly reminder.

A lightning strike energized this customerโ€™s boat lift, causing it to run all the way up into the top beams.

The boat tipped forward off the lift and into the seawall โ€” damaging both the boat and the seawall. ๐Ÿ˜ณ

Thankfully, no one was around the lift when it happened.

โš ๏ธ This is one reason we always recommend turning the power OFF to your boat lift when itโ€™s not in use.

You'd be surprised how many of our service calls start that way.

Sometimes a failure happens without much warning. But other times, your boat lift has been trying to tell you something isn't quite right.

Those little changes are worth paying attention to.

And your cables? Take a look at them every now and then. Fraying, unusual wrapping, kinks or changes in how the cable is winding are all reasons to have someone take a closer look.

Youโ€™ll find these decoy owls perched around docks and boat lifts to help discourage unwanted feathered visitors from making themselves at home.

The upper limit failed to stop the lift as it continued raising. The cable eventually broke and became wedged inside the top beam.
