It's Employee Ownership Month, and we're celebrating the people behind the paint. 🎉
When you're working on a piece that matters, you want materials you can trust.
At GOLDEN, the people formulating colors, testing products, answering artist questions, and packing orders aren't just employees. They're owners.
That means the success of the company is shared by the same people who show up every day to make the products you rely on. When they invest their time, knowledge, and care into a product, they're investing in something that's theirs, too.
More than 40 years on, that spirit of ownership is alive in every corner of the company.
And while you may never meet everyone behind the paint, you'll experience the results every time you open a jar, squeeze a tube, or start something new.
Happy ESOP Month to our employee-owners. 🎨

At the end of a long day in the studio, the painting is finished. But one question remains. The brushes are clean. The palette is scraped. And sitting beside your easel is a bucket of cloudy paint water.

What do you do with it?

For acrylic artists, studio cleanup has always been part of the creative process. That's why we developed the Crash Paint Solids kit: a simple way to remove acrylic paint solids from studio wastewater before disposal. It helps artists manage paint waste more effectively, making cleanup easier and helping keep those solids out of the waste stream.

In honor of World Rivers Day, we're reflecting on the small actions that add up to a bigger impact. Developing tools like the Crash Paint Solids kit is one way we put our commitment to sustainability into practice, helping artists care for their workspaces and the waterways we all share.

If this sounds like something you'd like for your studio, you can find the Crash Paint Solids kit at many art retail stores.

Before there was a factory, before there were production lines, there was a kitchen table.
More than four decades ago, Adele Golden hand-painted the color charts and labels so artists could see the true character of a GOLDEN color. It was a practical solution for a small, growing company, but it also became part of who we are.
A lot has changed since then. What hasn't changed is the dedication behind the process. While these labels are no longer painted at Adele's kitchen table, they are still hand-painted at our factory, just as they have been for more than 40 years.
Since those early days, we've painted millions of labels and color chart swatches, carrying forward a tradition built on respect for the artists who rely on our materials. This legacy continues, one brushstroke at a time.

Every painting starts long before the first brushstroke.
It starts with the colors, mediums, and materials that help bring an idea to life.
For nearly three decades, Bill Hartman, our Director of Sales has worked behind the scenes to make that possible for artists around the world.
Since joining Golden Artist Colors in 1999, he helped expand our brands into more than 50 countries across every continent. But what motivated him wasn’t growth for growth’s sake. It was a genuine curiosity about artists: what they needed, what inspired them, and how we could better serve them through our retail partners.
His hope throughout his career was simple: that the work he did helped delight customers and support their creative journeys.
Today, as he retires, we’re celebrating a legacy measured not only in milestones and markets, but in studios stocked, ideas realized, and creative journeys supported around the world.
Thank you, Bill, for 27 years of dedication. Your impact reaches far beyond any map, living on in the hands of artists everywhere.

Sometimes paintings start with a sketch. Sometimes just an idea. And sometimes it's simply a color you can't stop thinking about.

A soft lavender sky. The deep blue of a lake at dusk. The warm glow of sunlight across a wall.

Our Free Virtual Color Mixers give you a new way to explore those moments. By digitally sampling colors from photos, experimenting with mixtures, and building personalized palettes, you can discover color possibilities before the first brushstroke.

Think of it as a virtual color lab, designed to support creativity, spark experimentation, and help bring inspiration closer to the canvas.

Because the search for the perfect color can be just as rewarding as creating the artwork itself.

Tucked away in a mezzanine above the lab, in the heart of the GOLDEN factory, is a room few people ever see.

We call it the Retains Room.

Inside, boxes upon boxes upon boxes hold samples of paint from batches we've made over the years. How many samples? One for every batch from every product line across our fine art brands for the past seven years.

Each one is saved so we can monitor quality over time, testing samples at one, three, and seven years before making room on the shelves for new additions.

Some samples stay longer. Some are requested by museums and conservation scientists. And some, like this jar of Dioxazine Purple from 1985—the oldest retained sample in our collection—may just stay forever.

For more than four decades, it's quietly waited on a shelf, a reminder of our commitment to quality, consistency, and longevity.

Because making paint is only part of what we do. Standing behind it for decades is what makes us proud.

🎨 How many colors does it take to create a world of color?
In the Just Paint article linked below, explore how a carefully chosen palette of just six QoR Artist Watercolors can produce vibrant greens, oranges, violets, and even a rich chromatic black. Helpful if you're looking to simplify your supplies, build a travel palette, or strengthen your color-mixing skills.

Last month we asked which flower palettes we should put together - daylily was a popular choice. Here's the selection of QoR Artist Watercolors we'd use to paint this variety, as well as the painting Greg made using these colors. 🧡
