Nothing says fall quite like an orb weaver hanging out in the backyard! Orb weavers rebuild their intricate webs frequently, sometimes creating an entirely new web overnight. That’s a lot of work for one little spider. 🕸️

Keep an eye out for these impressive web builders while they’re especially active this fall!

Don’t put away the tick repellent just yet! 🕷️🍂

A warmer-than-usual fall could keep ticks active later into the season across our region, according to the NPMA’s Fall & Winter Bug Barometer. That means hiking, yard work, fall festivals and even a walk with the dog can still come with tick exposure.

Keep up those tick checks after spending time outdoors, and don’t assume the first cool day means tick season is over.

The National Pest Management Association’s Fall & Winter 2026 Bug Barometer is predicting above-average temperatures across the Great Lakes, Ohio Valley and Midwest, which could mean a longer season for stinging insects and ticks.

At the same time, other fall pests like stink bugs, boxelder bugs, Asian lady beetles and cluster flies are getting ready for cooler weather by looking for places to overwinter.
