I never liked the finish of splitting the base and cap when installing split columns. I now Install the cap and base details with the structural columns. It’s a much easier process going around 4x4 columns. This install was around 6x6 columns. If you noticed we had to chamfer down the top edges to make room for the Perma Cast column. All approved by engineer , the 6x6 where over kill to begin with. The end result and finial finish is definitely worth the extra work.

We usually have our staircases fabricated but I decided to build these on site. LVL stringers with 3/4 plywood sub treads & risers. We joined the tread and riser with a rabbit joint to strengthen tread between stringers. Everything was glued with advance tech sub floor glue. @ Ronkonkoma, New York
