Thursday looks to have tornado potential for northern Oklahoma and southern Kansas, into southwest Missouri and northwest Arkansas! Morning storms will leave behind an outflow boundary across the region where additional storms will form Thursday afternoon and evening. Despite the morning storms, it appears sufficient heating and destabilization will occur, creating an environment favorable for severe weather. Strong speed and directional shear will support supercells capable of producing very large hail and damaging winds. The tornado potential will increase through the late afternoon and evening as a strengthening surface low develops, enhancing low-level wind shear. All the ingredients will be in place for tornado development. Adding confidence to the setup, leading artificial intelligence and machine-learning severe weather guidance highlights the region as an area with favorable parameters for tornado-producing supercells. While AI-based guidance should not be used alone, its signals are aligning with traditional forecast guidance that suggest an increasing tornado threat during the late afternoon and evening hours🌪️

TORNADO OUTBREAK POSSIBLE MONDAY

Oklahoma, Kansas and Missouri need to pay very close attention to Monday.

The setup being advertised is the kind that can produce a higher-end severe weather day from near Kansas City southward toward Tulsa and Oklahoma City. A strong storm system ejecting into the Plains, rich Gulf moisture, strong instability and strengthening wind shear could all come together by late Monday afternoon into Monday night.

That combination would support supercells capable of very large hail, damaging winds and tornadoes. Some storms could become intense if they can form and stay isolated.

This is still several days out, so details will change. But the signal is strong enough that this is not one to casually scroll past.

Have a plan now. Know where your safe place is. Make sure you have multiple ways to get warnings, including the MCWX app.
