A few years ago, VoyageKC interviewed me about the early days of Dwell in the House. This week, they shared an update on where that little business has taken us since. 🥹

At the time, we were in the middle of our 16th renovation, still doing a whole lot of the work ourselves, and I was learning as I went what it looked like to turn this love for restoring old houses into a business.

A lot has changed since then. 🥹

When VoyageKC reached out again recently, it was pretty special to sit down and reflect on where those early years have led. Dwell has grown from primarily restoring our own properties into full-service design and remodeling, a home staging division, and a team of people I’m incredibly grateful to work alongside.

There was never really a grand business plan for any of this. One house led to another, one opportunity led to the next, and there has been a whole lot of learning along the way.

But one thing hasn’t changed. I still believe this has always been about more than houses.

Looking back, I can see so many moments of God’s provision, timing, and direction that I didn’t always recognize in the moment. I’m incredibly grateful for where He has brought Dwell and excited to see where He leads us next.

“We tried everything. We adjusted the price. Added a fridge. Fenced the backyard. Nothing got that house to move until we staged it.”

That home sat on the market for 11 months.

After we staged, it went under contract in less than a month. 🫢

Staging doesn’t change the house. It changes how buyers experience it. Sometimes that’s the difference between a home that gets overlooked and one that finally feels like the one.

Every home is different, but this is exactly why I believe in thoughtful, intentional staging.
