1. Do not try to remove something yourself, your insurance has an obligation to return your covered peril back to pre-loss condition. When a tree is on the home or hung up in another tree it has all kinds of static pressure that could hurt or kill if not respected.
2. When hiring someone check for insurance, not just general liability, workers comp is often skipped by tree companies because it is very expensive. If one of their employees gets hurt on your property and they don't have it, you're at RISK!!
3. Ask questions. Make sure who you hire is educated on the subject, what equipment are they gonna use, how are they going to remove the tree without damaging your home even more. If you hire someone and they do more damage your insurance may not cover it.
4. Make sure you have a WRITTEN CONTRACT in place. The days of a handshake are over unfortunately I have seen many people get burned over the years. Tree guys aren't always good businessmen.
