USS Bonhomme Richard Lhd6

On March 4, 2021, salvage contractors removed sections of the superstructure from the U.S. Navy amphibious assault ship USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD-6) in San Diego, California. This work was part of the preparations for towing the vessel to the next stage of handling and dismantling.

The USS Bonhomme Richard is a Wasp-class amphibious assault ship that entered service in 1998. The removal of the superstructure was carried out to facilitate towing and support subsequent handling operations following a major fire in July 2020—an event that marked a significant chapter in the final period of the ship's service life.
