Retrograde Coffee’s Ballpark Village location in Germantown took home the High-Velocity & Transactional Spaces Award at the IIDA Tennessee 2026 Design Awards!

At just 500 square feet, the café fits a full kitchen, coffee bar, and lounge, making room for quick coffee stops and customers who want to sit awhile. Color, texture, layered lighting, and touches of Retrograde’s signature branding give this third location a character of its own.

Thank you to IIDA Tennessee Chapter for the recognition, and to everyone who helped bring Retrograde Coffee Ballpark Village together.

Big things are taking shape for SGS in Alabama! 🏗️

We’re excited to celebrate recent groundbreakings for two of our community planning projects with Land Innovations: Westmoore Landing in Huntsville and South Brook in Decatur.

Westmoore Landing began with a longtime family property and a vision for its next chapter. SGS worked with the McCrary family to help shape that vision, connecting Land Innovations and rochfordconstruction to plan a new traditional neighborhood in Huntsville. Our team led the master planning, form-based rezoning, and design guidelines, helping bring the project to this milestone as the first phase moves into construction.

In Decatur, South Brook is bringing new life to the former Decatur Country Club property. SGS collaborated with HDLA and Pugh Wright McAnally, Inc. to plan a mix of housing, retail, office, and live/work spaces while preserving mature trees along the former golf course fairways.

Across both projects, the focus remains on creating connected, walkable communities across Alabama.

We’re excited to share that the Neuhoff Curve Building interiors received the Best Sustainability + Adaptive Reuse Story Award at last night’s IIDA Tennessee 2026 Design Awards!

After decades of vacancy, fire, and deterioration, the former meatpacking plant is now home to offices, retail, restaurant, and gathering spaces. Throughout the interiors, original materials, weathered surfaces, and imperfections were preserved and highlighted, allowing the building’s history to remain part of the experience.

Thank you to IIDA Tennessee Chapter for the recognition, and to the many people who helped preserve and transform Neuhoff for its next chapter.

Since 2011, SGS has contributed to Westhaven’s continued growth through architecture and interior design across condominiums, townhomes, live/work buildings, restaurant interiors, lakefront retail and dining, and community amenities including Westhaven West Amenity.

Across from Centennial Park in Nashville’s West End, each residence pairs open floor plans, high ceilings, custom cabinetry, and stone countertops with large windows that bring in natural light and frame views of the park and Parthenon.

Smith Gee Studio is helping shape two of Tennessee’s three Choice Neighborhood programs, including KCDC’s Transforming Western initiative in Knoxville.

Recently completed, the Overlook at Beaumont is the first phase of the $390 million effort, bringing 76 new affordable and mixed-income homes to Western Heights. Our architecture and interiors teams brought market-rate quality and amenities to an affordable community, with one- to five-bedroom residences and shared spaces designed to give families more room to gather, play, work, and spend time together beyond their homes.

The architecture takes cues from the surrounding homes, schools, and commercial buildings, helping Overlook at Beaumont feel connected to the existing neighborhood while setting the stage for future phases of Transforming Western.

A site that once divided two neighborhoods now connects them.

Spanning 14 acres between Germantown and Salemtown, Taylor Place brings new life to a 150-year-old industrial site. Over 12 years and three phases, our team brought architecture, urban design, and interior design services together across the site, adapting historic industrial structures alongside new development. New streets, pedestrian connections, public spaces, and art helped reopen the site to the surrounding community.

Today, Taylor Place is home to residences, restaurants, offices, and our own office. One of our favorite parts of being here is getting to see the place we helped shape continue to grow and stay active every day.
