Thinking about aerating this spring? Good news: you're ahead of the curve. The catch: timing is everything, and acting too soon can do more harm than good. While spring might seem ideal, for most lawns in Middle Tennessee, timing varies by grass type. Aerating at the wrong point in your grass's growth cycle stresses your turf and opens the door for weeds.
Here's your cheat sheet on when to aerate:
🌱 Warm-Season Grasses (Bermuda & Zoysia) → End of May-Early July. Peak growth means fast recovery and the perfect setup for fall overseeding.
🌱 Cool-Season Grasses (Fescue) → September through early October. Cooler temps give new seed the best chance to germinate and establish before winter.
