As we continue celebrating Women in Construction Week, we’re proud to highlight another incredible woman behind Hug Excavating — Carla Hug.

Carla is not only a co-owner of Hug Excavating, but she’s also out in the field operating equipment and behind the wheel of a truck helping keep our projects moving. Her willingness to jump in wherever she’s needed, her work ethic, and her dedication to the job are just a few of the many reasons we’re proud to have her leading the way.

Women in construction continue to break barriers in an industry that has traditionally been male-dominated. Every day, women like Carla are proving that they belong in the driver’s seat, in the operator’s seat, and in leadership roles across the industry.

This week we celebrate the hardworking women helping build our communities — and we’re proud to have Carla helping lead the way at Hug Excavating. 👷‍♀️🚧

🚧✨ Women in Construction Week® 2026 ✨🚧
This year’s theme from the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) is:
“Level Up. Build Strong.”

To celebrate WIC Week®, we’re shining a spotlight on the incredible women of Hug Excavating.

The women who show up ready to work.
The women who learn new skills and take on new challenges.
The women who handle the details, support the crews, solve problems, and help keep projects moving forward every single day.

We are so proud of the women who have chosen a path in construction — an industry that demands grit, resilience, and confidence. Their work matters. Their presence matters. And their impact is seen on every job we complete.

Hug Excavating was built on the belief that there is room for women in every part of this industry — in the field, in leadership, and at the decision-making table.

Our owner, Holly Hug, is proud to stand alongside these women — not just as a business owner, but as someone committed to building opportunity, raising standards, and encouraging the next generation of women to step boldly into the trades.

This week, we celebrate growth.
We celebrate strength.
And we celebrate the women helping shape the future of construction — right here at Hug Excavating.

💪 Level Up. Build Strong.

“We cannot wait for change — we must build it.”

What is WIC Week®?
Women in Construction (WIC) Week® is a nationwide initiative that advances and promotes the vital role of women in the construction industry. Led by the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC), WIC Week® brings together thousands of professionals through national webinars, regional events, and local chapter celebrations — all focused on strengthening and amplifying the impact of women in the trades.

At Hug Excavating, this week means something personal.

We are proud to be a woman-owned and operated excavating company — not just in title, but in the field, in the office, and on every job site. From running heavy equipment to managing bids, trucking logistics, compliance, and contracts, we are building more than projects — we are building representation.

Construction has traditionally been male-dominated, but change doesn’t happen by waiting. It happens by showing up, working hard, leading crews, and proving every single day that skill, leadership, and grit do not have a gender.

To every woman in construction — whether you're in the dirt, behind the wheel, in the office, or leading a company — we see you. We support you. And we’re proud to build alongside you.

And to the next generation of girls watching:

There is space for you here. You don’t have to wait for a seat at the table — you can build the table.

Coming up on four years in business has us reflecting.

Hug Excavating isn’t just another excavating company to us.

It’s the conversations after hours about how to do things better.
It’s working side by side.
It’s making decisions that impact our family and our future.
It’s showing up every day knowing our name is attached to the work.

This business challenges us.
It pushes us.
It’s ours.

And it’s something we are incredibly proud of.

Thank you for being part of the journey so far.

Snowmageddon Recap ❄️🚜

What a couple of long, cold days! Our crews were out from early mornings to late nights, pushing through tough conditions to keep roads, lots, and driveways as safe as possible. We ran multiple crews, worked nonstop, and did everything we could to get to everyone quickly and safely.

We truly appreciate everyone’s patience, kindness, and support during this storm. It doesn’t go unnoticed and it means more than you know.

Thank you for choosing Hug Excavating and for supporting a local small business. 💪❄️

Thank you all so much for your patience and your business! We truly appreciate each and every one of you.
I met so many wonderful people today, and your support is what helps keep us running—more than you know.

We will be back out tomorrow to continue plowing. Everyone I have been in contact with, please know I will be there.

Thanks again for all the support!
— Holly, Hayden, and Randall 🚜💙

🏚️A house demolition is more than just knocking something down.

🔌Before any equipment moves, there’s a checklist:
• utilities must be disconnected
• permits and approvals need to be in place
• recyclable materials are separated when possible
• a plan is created for debris removal and site cleanup

♻️From there, the structure is taken down in a controlled way and the site is graded so it’s ready for whatever comes next — new construction, green space, or redevelopment.

🏡Demolition is one of the services we provide, and we’re happy to answer questions if you’ve ever wondered what the process looks like.
