All Florians know that the weather is a bit crazy in our state. This influences many aspects of our lives but today we want to talk to you precisely about the maintenance of the lawn during this season. We want to focus on the St Agustine grass, as it is the most than abundant in our communities and the most used in our clients' homes. Let's share some little tips to keep your lawn healthy and beautiful.
It is important to say that for each year station the maintenance of the lawn changes. Let's discuss a little bit of how to keep the grass during the summer months. June to August.
- Ok lets start talking about mowing:
During the hot summer months, unless your lawn is stressed due to drought conditions, mow your grass every 7 days. If drought conditions exist, mow less often. But usually on Florida summers can tend to be a little rainy. Like I said before, we have crazy weather!!
Fertilizing (Important)
Apply the first application around mid-June and the second application around the beginning of August. Apply 1/2 to 1 lb of nitrogen per 1,000 square feet. However, because of the rapid growth during this time of the year, We highly recommend to split the application in half. :D
Watering
Like us (humans) water should be first thing in AM!! Same with the grass. Although St Agustine grass can survive for long periods without irrigations; a good moisture in the soil will help your St Augustine lawn retain its color during the summer months.
Insect Control:
Check your grass for any chinch bug activity. If found,
treat the area. It’s recommended to seek a lawn professional for treatment.
Very important !!
DO NOT Apply any herbicides if:
Lawn is under stress!!
Weeds are not actively growing!!!
