SCAMMER BUSTED! Inside Edition sent several locksmiths to the same house. Some were trained professionals who picked the lock without causing any damage. One was from KeyMe, and they drilled straight through the smart lock.

KeyMe has kiosks at your local Publix, Walmart, and other Naples stores, and they market themselves as a full-service locksmith too. But destroying a lock that didn’t need to be drilled is a scam and it’s a bill you shouldn’t have to pay.

🚨 $650 for a lockout?! In Southwest Florida, this is happening more than people realize and we've seen bills well over $1,000 from local scammers.

A local senior in Estero was charged hundreds for unskilled and destructive locksmith work. No warning. No transparency. Just a stressful situation made worse and she was left with a broken lock in the end. There are very few cases where a lock must be drilled to open it, a skilled locksmith can pick the lock open in a non-destructive fashion in a few minutes.

This is exactly how scam operators work:

This news story out of Colorado shows exactly how seniors are scammed by fake locksmiths, and it mirrors what we are seeing here in Naples more often than people realize.

A company presents itself as a legitimate locksmith, but is really trained to take as much money as possible. The job starts one way, then quickly shifts. Locks get drilled immediately, and the price climbs far beyond what was originally quoted.

That is the bait-and-switch. A low or even a reasonable price gets the technician to your door, then the real charges begin once you feel committed.

Many of these companies are not truly local. They rotate business names, use fake addresses, and route calls through national dispatch centers. When one name gets shut down or enough bad reviews, another with dozens of fake reviews appears right behind it. There are a dozen scammers listed on Google Maps right now in Naples, but there’s no locksmith shop at those addresses.

We have had customers walk into our showrooms and describe this exact experience after it happened to them or someone in their family. It is happening here, quietly and repeatedly.
