Your light bulb and dimmer switch might just hate each other.

Seriously.

One thing I’ve learned in 22 years of electrical work is that the most obvious explanation isn’t always the correct one.

LED lights that flicker when dimmed don’t automatically mean your wiring is bad.

Sometimes you’ve simply paired a dimmer with an LED bulb it doesn’t work well with.

And here’s the part that surprises people: Even when the package says “dimmable,” that doesn’t guarantee compatibility with every dimmer.

If your lights only flicker when you turn them down low, that’s a useful clue.

If this were my garage, I’d usually hardwire the charger.

After 22 years in the electrical trade, that’s my starting preference for a charger that will stay in one place.

A plug-in charger with a NEMA 14-50 outlet can make sense when you want flexibility. But an outlet shouldn’t be the automatic choice just because it seems simpler.

The right setup depends on your charger, your panel’s available capacity, and how you use your vehicle. Let’s plan the installation around your home.

22 YEARS. ONE RULE: Space heaters go straight to the wall.

Not into an extension cord.
Not into a power strip.
Not into the surge protector behind the couch.

Straight into the wall receptacle.

After 22 years in the electrical trade, this is exactly the kind of shortcut I don’t think is worth taking.

Space heaters use a lot of power for something people often treat like an ordinary plug-in appliance.

And here’s the part I really want homeowners to remember:

If the outlet gets hot…
If the plug fits loosely…
If you smell hot plastic…
If the breaker keeps tripping…

The answer is not a heavier extension cord.

Stop using it and find out why.

Your space heater is supposed to heat the room—not the electrical system inside your wall.
