We are reaching that annual LONG, HOT and DRY part of the summer when your lawn will be thirsty for water!!! Make sure to follow our "PROPER WATERING" instructions for our high dessert area to protect your grass through this heat. Watering DEEP into the soil, during the cooler parts of the day (if possible) every 4-5 days will push the roots down and protect them and encourage growth. Daily, short waterings-especially during the heat of the day- will evaporate and dry out your lawn, and NOT give you your desired lush, green lawn!

PROPER WATERING INSTRUCTIONS:
The intent is to get approximately 2 inches of water, which will soak deep into the ground, encouraging grass roots to go down further for nutrition. The rich, moist soil found deeper in the ground, encourages growth, strengthens the roots and is protected from the heat and evaporation from the hot sun. This only needs to happen ONCE a week, during the regular season. For just the couple weeks of reaching a daily temperature of 100, then up your watering to approximately every 4-5 days.

HOW TO get those 2 inches:
The amount of water from each type of sprinkler head varies greatly! So each section of your system may be set at varying times!! Try setting a 2 inch pan out in EACH area of your yard, and time how long it takes to fill that up. That will give the amount of time to set your clock for that section!! Small pop-up heads put out more water, so those areas may only take 30 min or so. However, the large, rotating heads take longer to put out the necessary water- and may take up to 2 hours!! BUT REMEMBER-- this only needs to be done ONCE a week! (Unless its 100+ for multiple days in a row- then do every 4-5 days!)

---------ANNUAL SPRINKLER SYSTEM BLOW-OUTS--------
City water/irrigation will be officially turned off October 7, 2024! Thueson Lawn Care will start our regular yearly schedule of BLOWING OUT SPRINKLER SYSTEMS (Winterizing) on October 10th. Each of our LOYAL CUSTOMERS will receive a letter in the mail with their exact date of service! There is NO NEED to panic or rush to get your system winterized! Your system is protected and insulated under ground- protecting it from cold weather and possible damage until MUCH later in the season! ONLY the areas where your pipes may come above the ground and be exposed, such as a faucet or filter, could be at risk, in extreme temperatures for long periods of time-- which can simply be protected with a towel or blanket until we get there to service your system. We appreciate your patience as we make sure to properly service every system correctly with our professional expertise, knowledge and skill. Enjoy these final days of summer, and a gorgeous fall as we transition into winter over the next few months!

REMEMBER!!! Short watering cycles will quickly evaporate in this heat!! YOUR LAWN NEEDS DEEP watering- more water, less often- similar to “flood irrigation” that they used to do in this high desert valley!
Watering equivalent to 1 1/2 - 2 inches deep into the ground is ideal!! That pushes the water down, which encourages longer, stronger roots in the moist soil, protected from the sun and evaporation!! That time may vary according to the type of sprinkler heads- so each zone could be different!
**Place a baking pan out in your yard and time how long it takes to fill it up!! Do in each zone (pop up heads tend to be less time than larger rotating heads!)Then set your clock accordingly!
Repeat your cycle every 3-4 days in this heat!
Approximately every 6-7 days in normal conditions!!

Things are starting to warm up here in the valley, so NOW is the time to up your watering to every 3-5 days (instead of once a week)! REMEMBER, DEEP watering is still THE best for your grass roots as they will dig deep into your soil for that moisture, developing thick strong roots for your grass and avoid evaporating water from the top layer!!
Also, some bug infestations or diseases will present themselves in this heat! Be aware and consistent in proper watering to help avoid issues, if possible. If you are unsure what issues you may be having, please call and we can come check your lawn and offer advice and treatment, if necessary!
ENJOY the rest of your summer!

Sprinkler Winterization and Blow-outs have begun! The water supply to most areas has already been stopped. Others have been delayed a bit, which has thrown our usual schedule WAY off!! We are planning to come to each of our usual customers and have sent letters out informing you of your scheduled date! Those with their own water supply, such as a well, will be put off a little longer as the weather is still warm and you can continue to water a little while longer! If you have not yet received that letter, please watch for it in your mailbox!
Again, THANK YOU for continuing to be our loyal customers and enjoy this beautiful fall weather!

NOW is the time to up your watering to every 3-5 days (instead of once a week)! REMEMBER, DEEP watering is still THE best for your grass roots as they will dig deep into your soil for that moisture, developing thick strong grass and avoiding the short, weak roots that remain only on the top where the sun evaporates the water! Also beware of some bug infestations or diseases that can present themselves in this heat! If you are unsure what issues you may be having, please call and we can come out to check your lawn and offer advice!
