Happy Labor Day from Obsidian Ridge Contractors.

This holiday is about more than a long weekend. It is a day to recognize the people who keep America working.

That starts with the trades. Carpenters, masons, ironworkers, painters, electricians, plumbers, operators, and laborers put up the homes, shops, schools, and roads we all use. It also includes everyone else who shows up and does their job - farmers, truck drivers, nurses, teachers, shop owners, and office teams. This country runs because they do.

Here in the Treasure Valley, that work is easy to see. A framed house on a dirt lot becomes a family’s home. A finished commercial building becomes somebody’s living. Skilled people measure twice, build it right, and hand it off to the next person who keeps the economy moving.

That is the work we do every day at Obsidian Ridge Contractors.

To our crew, our trades partners, our suppliers, and every hard hat and hard worker across America: thank you.

We hope you spent the day with your families or enjoying this perfect weather. We all deserve it!

We’ll see you back on the job ready to build.

I’m also sharing this here in hopes that our friends, peers, and partners will help spread the word, join us, or lend a hand. Making a living is important, but giving back is what truly matters.

We are Obsidian Ridge Contractors Idaho and we love to give back to our wonderful Treasure Valley!

Times are hard right now and everything costs more than it should! I see it a lot everywhere we go and thought - maybe we can help a little!

We’ve been blessed, so we’re looking for a few people in our community who need real help around their home but can’t currently afford a contractor.

We are a licensed and insured general contracting company with an in-house team of professional, top-tier craftsmen and tradesmen. We’re offering to take on a small number of projects at no cost over the coming weeks.

Do you know someone who could use the help?

A veteran who’s fallen on hard times and needs something fixed or replaced?

A single mom or dad whose kid just broke a door, busted a faucet, or created another “can’t-wait” repair?

An older neighbor who needs mobility or accessibility improvements?

A family barley making it week to week who just needs a break?

Anyone who simply needs basic, honest repairs or builds done right - Anything counts don't be shy!

Reply in the comments, text us at 208-244-0811, or fill out the contact form on our website: www.obsidianridgecontractors.com

Why the Right Primer Matters More Than Most People Think

That glossy wallpaper you’re looking at? It’s getting a first coat of All-Prime for a reason (pictured)

Not every surface is the same. Glossy wallpaper, previously painted walls, bare drywall, wood, metal — each one needs a primer that is specifically formulated for that substrate. Using the wrong product (or skipping primer altogether) is one of the fastest ways to end up with peeling, flashing, or adhesion failure months (or days!) down the road.

In this case, a high-performance, waterborne, urethane-modified acrylic primer is the correct choice because it is designed to bond to difficult, non-porous surfaces like glossed wallpaper with minimal sanding/prep. Sometimes one coat is enough. Other times we need a second coat, or we tint the primer to help with coverage and color uniformity - it depends on the condition of the surface and the finish paint being used.

This is the kind of detail that separates a lasting job from a redo. At Obsidian Ridge Contractors we don’t guess. We match the primer to the substrate so the finish coat performs the way it should.

Our painters are among some of the nation’s best. They’re registered Journeymen who went through college accredited union Apprenticeships for their craft, carry endless hours of real field experience, classroom time, and have worked on nearly every high-profile project over the last decade. That’s the standard we bring to every job - including the ones in your home.

Quality starts underneath the paint. Shout out to the painters! Anyone can paint, but not many can be a real Painter! 🤙🏻 Call us today to see the difference!

Every job is an opportunity.

Not just to finish the work - but to learn, grow, adapt, and overcome.

In construction, no two projects are ever the same. One day you’re dealing with hidden moisture damage under a floor. The next, you’re adjusting to weather delays, tight access, missing tools, poorly matched paint, or a client’s changing needs mid-project.

Those challenges aren’t setbacks.
They’re the real classroom.

Every unexpected issue forces us to think sharper, think differently - adapt and overcome.

Every tough condition teaches better methods, new methods, refined methods.

Every problem we solve makes the next job cleaner and stronger. It makes us leaner, tougher, stronger… and most importantly, smarter.

That’s how we operate at Obsidian Ridge Contractors.
It’s why we thank our clients for enabling us to practice our trades, for trusting us with their time and money, and for providing the arena where our years of dedicated effort get put to the test - day in, day out.

We don’t just show up and get it done.
We treat each job as a chance to improve - for our clients, for our crew, and for the quality of work we stand behind.

Because, like our motto says:
“How you get there matters” just as much as the finished product.

What’s one lesson a job taught you that stuck with you?
Drop it in the comments - we’d love to hear it.

Is your wood fence quietly falling apart?

A lot of wood fences across the Treasure Valley never get sealed - including brand-new ones!

That factory-applied coating on new lumber? It does not protect the fence once it’s installed. It only protects the wood while it’s sitting at the lumber yard waiting to be sold to you. Once your fence is up and facing Idaho weather, that temporary coating is finished.

Without a proper seal, moisture, UV, and our freeze-thaw cycles start working on the boards right away. That’s why so many fences turn gray, warp, and rot years before they should.
Here’s what we do at Obsidian Ridge Contractors:

• Fix what’s already damaged — loose or rotten boards, leaning posts, broken rails, failing hardware

• Thoroughly wash the fence so the sealer actually bonds instead of sitting on top of dirt and old coatings

• Apply a professional-grade exterior sealer/stain built for Treasure Valley weather

We treat fence maintenance the same way we treat every other job: clean site, solid workmanship, and no shortcuts.

If your fence is looking tired or has never been properly sealed, now is the time. A maintained fence lasts longer, looks better, and costs far less than replacing it later.

Serving Nampa, Meridian, Boise, Caldwell, and the rest of the Treasure Valley.
