“Do I actually have to choose a design style before building my home?”
The short answer? No.
One of the biggest misconceptions we see is that homeowners feel like they have to pick a label before they can start making decisions. Modern. Farmhouse. Traditional. Contemporary. Organic Modern. The truth is, most homes end up being a blend of styles that reflect the people living in them.
That said, having a general design direction can make the selection process much easier.
Our latest build leans toward what is called Warm Contemporary—a style that combines modern design with everyday comfort. Clean lines, natural materials, warm wood tones, and layered textures create a home that feels current, timeless, and welcoming. It’s sophisticated without feeling cold and designed to be lived in.
If you’re trying to identify your design style, ask yourself these questions:
• Do I prefer light and airy spaces or rich and moody ones?
• Am I drawn to natural wood tones or painted finishes?
• Do I like clean lines or more decorative details?
• What homes do I save most often on Pinterest?
• Do I want my home to feel trendy or timeless?
• What materials do I find myself coming back to again and again?
At Crawford, we don’t expect you to have all the answers before you walk through our doors. Part of our job is helping you discover what you like, what you don’t like, and how to create a home that feels like you.
Sometimes clients come in saying they want “modern,” and after a few conversations, we realize what they really want is Warm Contemporary. Other times they discover they’re more traditional than they thought.
The goal isn’t to fit your family into a design style. The goal is to create a home that fits your family.
