Another great training day at BCS! Our field team just completed a full Rough Terrain Forklift and Skid Steer Operator Safety Training — classroom instruction, written exams, hands-on coaching, and an obstacle course that put every operator's skills to the test.

Big thanks to Mark Alvarez and Albert Casas from White Construction for sharing their expertise with our crew. Partnerships like this are how we all get better and safer together.

Safety knowledge is only powerful when it's shared. Today, BCS VP of Safety Todd Smith and Senior Project Manager Reed Boyd led a full safety training session for the White Construction Superintendent team in Austin, covering everything from OSHA recordables and injury management to how general contractors set the safety tone for every trade on-site.

Big thanks to the White Construction team for hosting a great discussion. Safer jobsites happen when everyone commits, and this is what that looks like.

Big win from the field: the new Dripping Springs High School #2 campus is now three months ahead of schedule!

After heavy spring rains put us behind earlier this year, our BCS crews added shifts, extended clear-weather workdays, and tightened up material deliveries to close the gap, and then some. Tilt-wall construction has been a major accelerator too, letting interior trades start work under cover sooner.

American Constructors and the whole project team now have a great buffer for the remaining interior work. Can't wait to see this campus open its doors to Driftwood and Dripping Springs students!

The cheapest concrete bid is almost never the lowest final cost.

Every GC and developer knows the story: you save a little on the front end, then spend it back (and then some) on change orders, schedule slips, safety incidents, and field teams stuck managing a subcontractor that shouldn't need managing.

At BCS, we do it differently. Three years without an OSHA recordable, our own rebar and finishing crews, proactive project managers who actually answer the phone, and strict ACI standards on every pour. You get certainty, not surprises.

Summer in Texas is no joke and our crews are working outside every day pouring concrete in the heat. Here's how we make sure everyone goes home safe and healthy:

⏰ Earlier start times so the toughest work happens before the peak heat
⛱️ Mobile shade stations set up right on-site for cool-down breaks
💦 Sqwincher packets and cold Gatorade to replace what water alone can't
🥶 On-site ice freezers for endless cold water and cooling cloths
Fruit cup Fridays — our safety and management team personally delivers chilled fruit cups to every crew, every Friday in August

Small touches, big impact. Taking care of our people is just how we do things. Want to join a crew that looks out for you? bcsconcrete.com/careers

Two big project wins to share! BCS has been awarded the Horseshoe Bay Resort racquet club expansion and the brand-new West Lake Fire Station #5 — both in partnership with our friends at John King Construction.

The racquet club is a $4.5M, 7,000 SF facility on the shores of Lake LBJ, opening in 2027. And Fire Station #5 will be a 15,174 SF facility right here in Austin, serving the West Lake community.

Big thanks to the King Construction team for the continued trust, we can't wait to break ground!

Meet Rami Ibrahim! Rami is our Superintendent for Rebar Furnishing and Installation, and he's been part of the BCS family since November 2024.

Rami grew up on jobsites in Lebanon, literally following his dad to work at age six. He earned a business degree at the University of Balamand, then moved to the U.S. to chase his true passion: building. Today, he leads a crew of 30 rodbusters with the same energy he once brought to the DJ booth (yes, really).

Off the clock? Bird hunting, skiing, soccer, and Texas BBQ. Bucket-list goal: build "The Ibrahim Tower."

Welcome to the family, Rami — and thank you for everything you bring to our team.

Three years. Zero OSHA recordable incidents. That's the milestone the entire BCS team just hit, and in commercial concrete, that kind of record is rare and hard-earned.

It comes down to the daily choices our people make: a best-in-class safety culture where anyone can stop work, a training program that never lets up, a safety team that stays proactive, and superintendents who make safety and operations move as one.

Thank you to every BCS team member for your commitment to looking out for yourselves and each other. Let's keep this streak going!

BCS VP of Safety Todd C. Smith is currently serving a two-year term on OSHA's Advisory Committee on Construction Safety and Health (ACCSH), advising the Secretary of Labor on the future of construction safety standards.

The big shift he's seeing: OSHA is moving from rigid, prescriptive rules to performance-based standards, focusing on the safety outcome rather than dictating exactly how to get there. Recent updates to PPE fit requirements and respiratory protection standards are early examples, giving employers flexibility to accommodate modern jobsite realities and diverse workforces.

For our teams, that means even stronger site-specific hazard assessments, better documentation, and continued investment in training. It's how we keep our "Best In Class" safety culture strong. Proud to have Todd representing our industry at the national level!
