Today was a day that I had hoped I would never have to face. I dealt with a snake. I can do and handle a lot of things, snakes are not one. I am part of a snake group which has helped considerably, but still, given the opportunity, never want to handle. Two weeks ago I had some bunny nuggets born. Today, while doing the feeding and watering saw 2 outside the nest box already. I wasn’t able to reach them and momma wasn’t happy that I was messing with them so left them alone. This afternoon, I see one baby at the front of the cage on one side and momma in the other front corner…odd. I go in and see a snake wrapped around the other baby. From my time in the snake group I’m 90% sure it’s a rat snake, still nothing I want to have come at me! My first attempt to rescue the baby was to poke it with a stick, not the brightest of ideas. The second attempt was to grab a chicken grabber pole that I had. Well, snake REALLY did not like that. He did unwrap from the bunny and started coming after me. The chickens were not happy having him in their coop, he finally vacated. Dave asked if I wanted him to kill it, and was told no. This snake has been around previously. I have let it have plenty of eggs it wants….but don’t mess with my bunnies! All babies are in their box, hopefully will all be ok.
